@kochicar,
I read somewhere that writing numberplates in langauges under than English/hindi is not allowed!..not sure though.

I also read sometiime ago...that in Bangalore 80% of the cops cant read kanada....so even if you have TN number written in kannada chances that they can read it are pretty low.

Regards,

You can have a number plate in the regional state language. The official state languages for Karnataka are Kannada and English. The RTO recommends to have the number in English alongwith Kannada if the owner prefers to use Kannada.

I don't know where Hindi came from here. In fact, having a number plate in Hindi would be an offence in Karnataka.

Really? In that case what happens if a visitor from UP/Bihar/MP drives in his/her vehicle? Or vice-versa.

Isn't there a uniformity on language about number plates?

The rule says "English Number plate is compulsary" as per CMV acts.

The Karnataka govt introduced a notification allowing addition of kannada script along with english. That is why in govt vehicles you see both scripts.

If you have only Kannada, that is not as per law and you can be fined.

Rockste... Absolutely buddy, if anything the Bangalore cops are nicer they ask for only the tax to be paid, here in hyderabad they want to fleece you for NOC, PUC, etc etc. Net net life is miserable for people who drive out of state vehicles in Hyderabad. The point here is irrespective of where you are in India Cops will be cops and try to fleece you to the Max. Where you get fleeced is upto your own fate. It may happen in your home town or else where

Okay I found the CMV for number plates act as below:

Quote:
The Motor Vehicles Act , Rule-50(2)(d) of the Central Motor Vehicle Rules, 1989, specifically states that the “letters of the registration mark should be in English and figures should be in Arabic numerals.”
The emphasis on Arabic numerals is because that is what the “English numbers” are called. The Arabic numerals are widely used across the world because Roman numerals are too complicated for the common man in the street to understand.

Any one recently paid LTT for vehicle of 3 yr old? How much is the charge? I enquired in a driving school and he mentions it to be around 10K. He said the amount has to be in DD. So, i think it goes to govt. only... Hope so...

I presume it would suffice if one had photocopies of all relevant documents like RC, Insurance, Tax Token, PUC, etc.
