seems more like the lower portion of a broken plate. just a guess, assuming that its owned by a civilian, and not diplomats/other classified users

Very likely a damaged plate. Did you check the plate at the front ?

Diplomatic number plates should have the emblem of the country embossed; and have a different clolur (blue back ground, IIRC). A blow up of the pic rules out damage to the number plates.

Looks like the car is from Andamans, and either 01 or 02 is missing after the AN. See List of RTO districts in India - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

That is not a damaged plate - its too geometrically perfect. AN is actually an Andaman Nicobar registration. Perhaps the isles have a simplified numbering system compared to the mainland due to the significantly lesser people (cars) there.

If the person was not using microscopic fonts for 01 and 02 then that too is ruled out. The space between AN and the number does not seem to be capable of accomodating an additional couple of numerals. Maybe Andaman and Nicobar simply has AN and gives a danm to the numerals.

Any Andaman Nicobar members on this forum who can verify?

It is an Andaman vehicle for sure. The number of vehicles being limited in those isles is the reason there is no provision for numerals after AN.

Is this confirmed or is this speculation?

It doesn't seem to me as if the number plate is broken. Couldn't see any jagged edges and the alpha numericals are evenly written.
