Pechant for the Number 9

Don't know about the other cities but here in Hyderabad, the number 9 or a combination of numbers that add up to 9 seem to be in huge demand.
There is a big demand for 9999 - I have heard people paying close to 3 lakhs for the number at the RTA Auctions. Next in the line are 999,99,9 or a combination that leads to 9 - 45, 27, 81, 36 and so on.

Then you get to see vehicles with all 4 same numbers - 2222,4444,7777.
For businessmen in particular, numbers - cell numbers, vehicle numbers and so, carry a lot of significance, and they wouldn't mind spending - just to get a number of their choice.

And then you have the 'boss' number - 8055.
Counting the numbers to see if they add up to 9 - or form a combination - is a favourite time pass while driving to work every day.

Same here in Bangalore. My brother has paid around 5K to get no.9 on his car i.e., adding all the numbers totalling to 9.

My dad and brother also have this thing about 9, as a result of which all new cars we buy always have this total

Equally important for people is to avoid 8 or any combination that counts to 8.

Mostly you could find these numbers in Govt vehicles

Around seven years back, these number system were not regularised in my place and RTO people were making a lot of money as bribe. My dealer who dispatched me the motorcycle asked me to pay 300 rs just to avoid '8'... And i refused . When Number dispatched i got exactly this 8. Used the vehicle for 5 long years i never had any problem. Not even a single scratch in the vehicle and not any major maintenance issue too. But the problem arised when i tried to resell the bike. The resale value of the bike is around 20,000 /- but people avoided due to number '8'. I had to discount 2000 rs just for this.

Though I dont believe this number '8' as unlucky but in some case it may bring down your resale value marginally.... Similarly no '9' and fancy numbers may push up your resale value marginally ... Gud Luck

I have also taken fancy no. for my Cedia totalling 9 i.e 1116 i paid 4k to get this no, was thinking of getting 9999, 999, 99, 9, but unfortunately these were not available.

Have seen these fancy numbers on cars belonging to either politicians or property dealers (here in Bangalore). When I was in Delhi, got to understand that there is a huge premium for getting some the number you fancy. In north, there is also a special premium on numbers '786' which fetched the highest in the bids.

Once while travelling in Mumbai, was looking at some of the fancy number plates and some of them had words made from the way the numbers were written ...... the way 8055 can be written as BOSS, 8106 as BLOG ..... had seen some really creative ones ..... am trying to recollect now ..... any of the BHPians have their views ??

I have had similar numbers even before like 8595, 5544, 5400, 3600, 6336 and 450. I have had numbers totalling to 3 like 111 and 9003. I have had other numbers like 3003, 6052, 16 and 914.

This is more of my agent's doing than mine.

I have had a fair share of accident damages on my vehicles with and without the 'lucky' numbers.
