I can say I've noticed a few Fortunas!

Consistently the worst, though, are Innova drivers, and it is very far from being only the ones with yellow plates. What is guys? You buy a vehicle that size just to bully other people? I guess so...
Haha I share your innova experience. I was on the Yeshwantpur road going towards Jalahalli. Metro construction goin on over there. An innova overtakes me only to stop few metres ahead because of a concrete block. I simply pass him. I see he is some guys with sunglasses on a rainy day..

Then he comes behind me and keeps bullying me. I let him pass once. He forgets his way i guess as soon he is behind me and again honking and bullying. I guess he cant stand the green color of my Figo.

This time ive had enough and Block him to my hearts content..

Driving SUVs yourself gives you an advantage of knowing in what situation an SUV driver can feel uncomfortable and the best And most effective way is using a hatchback. I bet the sight of a nano itself is enough to bug an SUV driver

SUV owners cant stand the sight of hatchbacks squeezing their way in through busy traffic and at signals. It frustrates them to see other cars doing what they cannot do. Of course if a driver is good I'l let him have his way asap.

But its fun to teach a lesson or two to miscreants. Its cause of them that good SUV owners have to suffer a bad public impression :(

Combination of inconsideration, apathy, sheer ignorance and a bit of vengefulness is what i'd blame this on.
It's not just all of that. You see, most Indians (I'm sorry, I'm an Indian too, and it hurts when I have to bring up such things) think more is better. You know what I mean, right? We are a race that can't be cheated easily. What we get, we use, and use it like there is no tomorrow.

So coming back to the lights. I can somehow articulate what goes on in the minds of fellow road-users who switch their high-beams on. When they get a feel of the stalk, and begin to use it, they immediately come to the conclusion that the higher beam helps them see better, so why bother switching to low beam,or staying in low beam?

I do love angel eyes btw
Most HID/Xenon modifications undertaken on some cars haven't been done properly. People don't understand the correct usage and application of HID/Xenon lights. Such strong bulbs are to be installed on vehicles that come factory-fitted with projectors in the headlamp unit. But most customers get the bulbs installed in regular reflectors. HID/Xenons in reflector-type headlight units do more harm than good. The reflector unit scatters the entire beam all over the place, thereby blinding other road users. Projectors on the other hand ensure that the beam is focused properly and prevents the beam from being scattered.

Unfortunately, most people install HID/Xenons for aesthetic appeal rather than actually benefiting from it. Projector lights would do a world of good, but what they want is the 'fancy-light'. And they've got it. So why blow more money on projectors when they could spend it on a few more HID/Xenon bulbs for the fog-lamp units!

Agree with you. Lot of Innova's/Scorpios are driven very harshly and they try to bully others (esp: Hatches). Though I expect this behavior from yellow plates, it's really sad to see private vehicle owners do the same. They get irritated the moment they spot a hatch in front of them and try all the tricks to bully them and get in front. Only relief is my swift can take care of these innova's and teach them a lesson or two if the need arise.

No offence meant to any Innova/Scorpio owners.

we can see many of these around - no padding, just the shell. good for shoving the phone between the ear and the shell!

aren't Army folks supposed to be disciplined and set example to others? at least that is what used to be told growing up (i hail from a Army family). this guy consistently either jumped the signal or just would cross the stopline and stop at the zebra crossing. shame on you!

the sticker behind that Bolero says report rash/negligent driving. how is one supposed to report the vehicle when you can't even make out the number!

On the contrary... I'm quite happy to offend them .

At least, the ones that behave as discussed here, not the good drivers of course.

Fog lights and fog: they are also extremely good for lighting up potholes. The should point low, lighting up the road in front of the car. They will not be a nuisance to others.

Yes have seen so many army labelled cars doing that. I guess many would just be putting up the sticker without even actually being in the army.

Army trucks
One army truck had broken the RHS rear door of my Santro when my dad was driving. The driver and his mates then proceeded to misbehave with my father thinking that being a doctor he could be harassed easily.
That person was however in for a shock when he reached his base to find his chief to be a friend of my father. Later on the driver and his mates came and apologised and paid for the door.

But what if my father was not a friend of their Chief?? What if he was just another person on the road??

A similar incident happened two weeks back near BEL circle after the ramp of the flyover. At around 8pm at night. The car was a red i10. His door was bent by an army lorry. But it was largely that guy's fault as he was driving without the lights on (looked like a new car) and there wasnt much street lighting at that area near the BP pump. Around 20 armymen had gathered around that guy. I guess he would have been manhandled

Ps. Off topic i guess but If a traffic police tries to snatch your camera in case you photograph him doing something wrong, what do you do?? Do you let him have the camera??

It may come as a shock to you but most yellow plate SUV drivers are mostly ok except for the few.
I have seen private owners doing such things mostly. Because the taxi drivers arent in a hurry to get anywhere as they will be mostly for intercity interstate trips but private owners are mostly either going to workplace or market within the city and hence they resort to such tactics.

God help you if you come in front of a bad yellow plate SUV. That guy wont even bother. AFAIK he may simply proceed to nudge your rear bumpers.

Qualis and Innovas are not SUV - they are MUV. Other than this, I agree that most of these MUV are driven recklessly and use their bulk to bamboozle other cars on the road.

True. Majority of the Fortuners, Pajeros, Endeavors etc are rather better driven. May be a perception as they are less in number

I use my fog light just for this sole reason, to light up the road or rather the lack of it. The road from my home to office is literally strewn with potholes and speed breakers and I switch on the fog light once I leave office and when I enter back to my locality I switch them off, they are really helpful in unlit or badly lit areas.

Actually I stopped taking my car to office after being fed up with crawling along and am taking a bus (My office is 3 km from my home).

Today the bus i took was being driven a bit haphazard and near the sanatorium bus bay, a guy was walking a bit into the bus bay to avoid the water puddle on the left hand side due to sudden rains. This driver literally crept behind this guy and gave him a nudge and the guy was shocked beyond belief. He moved away and pointed a simple press of a horn should have made him move out of the way for which our hero driver looked away.

I recall checking this usage out as a new member on Team-BHP, and it was generally approved of.

Getting a puncture repaired, recently, I noticed that the shop had all the gear for properly aligning headlights. I was surprised that a small shop would have enough custom for such a thing to make it worthwhile. I didn't think anybody bothered.

Re: Bad Drivers - How do you spot 'em

Taking inspiration from Ironh4wk, I post a first set of pics of bad drivers! Both taken from my mobile phone cam.

Some people have never learnt geometry in school. I mean, is it really so hard to park when you have well defined parking space for your car?!
Bad Drivers - How do you spot 'em-bad1.jpg

On an ill lit dark street, you park your black Figo, which protrudes 3/4th into the road. Someone is going to stumble and fall on the front wheel
I wish I had better camera with a flash to show the actual car.

For the first pic, it looks like there were 2 cars in the empty spaces. Due to someones incorrect parking all the rest had to adjust optimally

For the second pic, dont want to be a sadist, but I hope cars parked with blatant disregards to the public and fellow motorists end up with a nice scratch on the offending side.

As far as the second picture is concerned, I've seen a lot a people developing this habit of turning the wheels towards the road when they park the car. Intentionally they do that rather than keeping the wheels straight.
I once asked a person doing that to explain me the reason for that.
The asnwer I got "If somebody comes close, he'll only hit the tyre and may be bounce away and will not scratch the car" I was like

My point is...
1. if the wheel is protruding out, other cars will actually try to turn more trying to accomodate that extra width.(In many cars, it protrudes more than even the ORVM)
This will many times create a block in small roads
On wider roads some people might actually change lanes to avoid that
2. assume he comes very close, he might hit the turned wheel which he would've otherwise missed if it was straight
3. A scratch on the body or mirror is still acceptable than a damage to the wheel which might render the car motionless

Also In the user manual of my car, they have mentioned meany things but not turning wheels

I always dream of some magic to happen which can damage only the vehicles which have broken the law and keep the other car intact in case of a collision

Thats really something!! How selfish can these people get. Its just one step away from placing huge stones around the car to protect the car!

As for turning the wheels, i think its advisable to turn the wheels only when parking on a slope and that too in such a way that if the car rolls, then the direction of the wheels takes the car into the kerb and not the traffic.
