Very true. So do any other gadgets. Always better for the co-driver to handle these stuff & let the driver keep his eyes on the road.

Glad that you came out unhurt. Lack of concentration even for a second can turn fatal at times. But I have a feeling that the Maruti EPS might have had a role to play. It is way too light and is very easy to over-correct when the car is out of control and spinning around and at hign speeds. It is way too sensitive and ultra light at high speeds.

I am glad nothing happened to you and your wife. Its also good that You shared your experience and lesson learnt from the same with everyone. Your observations are correct.

In my opinion. Mumbai Pune Expressway is one of the safest roads I have ever driven on. Sadly, most of the accidents on expressway are blamed on this road calling it as Killer road by most of the newspapers in this region, which to me, is completely incorrect.

I hope you get your vehicle back soon.

takecare and drive safely

Its nice to here you and your wife were safe Peregrine. Feel bad about vehicle damage. Some times I too involve in some arguments with my wife, most of the time I pretend as if I am listening to her, and I will keep my concentration on road only if not I will slow down vehicle to minimum speed ( even when driving 2 wheeler).

An update from my side. Finally received my Car on Sunday 28th September. This is an abridged list of Repairs and replacements :

Replacements :

Front bumper
Right Side Front Door
Right side panel above Tyre - Front and Back (dont know what its called )
Both headlamps
Both Fog Lamps
Rims + Hubcaps for Right side front and Left side back tires
Suspension Pin for right tyre Axle (Dont know what it is )
Two new tires

Repairs :

Bonnet
Right side back door
Denting correction
Painting

Total time taken for Repairs was 20 days.
Total Cost was around 85000 out of which i had to Pay Rs. 8200 . Rest in insurance.

The service people have bungled up few things which i will get corrected during servicing which is due in October :

Right side front door speaker not working
Cabin Light does not come on when door is opened or key is removed.

I am glad to have my car back as good as new. Had to come back to Mumbai again on the expressway. The accident was flashing in front of our eyes. Nevertheless, We just zipped past the accident spot .

Good for u and ur wife that u guys came out unhurt!
Pls drive safe! Chit chatting IS required when driving long distances, but not by taking off ur eyes from the road.
Wishing all safe driving, especially during Monsoons.

Check out this link for the accident i faced on my Fiesta.

Good that you two are unhurt and even your car has recovered. I guess, your wife will need encouragement now from your end, to have the courage to drive, because of the scary experience.

Peregrine, glad to know that both you escaped unhurt.

Please share a little more on how the safety features on the car worked - Did the car have ABS? Did it help?

Unfortunately, My Car did not have ABS. I dont know whether ABS would have saved the car from crashing or not as my guess is that at no point did my wife press on the brakes. Luckily, she had taken her foot off the accelerator.

The swerving was most definitely caused by the steering being quite light.

However, the side impact beams did their job quite well. The side impact was at quite a good speed and considering the speed at which we hit, the damage was not that much.
