Default Cops seize bike, land in soup - Do not have power to seize the vehicle

Bangalore: Two traffic subinspectors have landed in trouble after seizing an advocateís two-wheeler.

On October 16, advocate David Slim was riding near Hudson Circle along with his niece Deepa. He was stopped by a traffic sub-inspector and fined Rs 2,000 despite having documents. On his refusal to pay, the SI asked his colleague to seize the vehicle. Slimís claim for a receipt was refused. The sub-inspectors then noted his nieceís name and left, Slim said in his complaint.

Later in the day, the vehicle was produced in court along with a charge sheet. However, it was turned down by the judge, who said the two officers did not have power to seize the vehicle. Slim said the police forcibly took his vehicle, and accused SIs Nagar Valsar and Krishna of threatening him.

May be I should stick an 'advocate' logo on my 2 wheeler, atleast they may not stop me for no reason. I dont have an advocate in the far far far distant relation too.

Our cops truly DESERVE this kind of treatment for harassing motorists. Kudos !

Very recently, there was a constable here who seized a bike & was using it for one year. He was suspended pending inquiry.

Too bad they messed with an advocate then! Cops are known to create their own rules at times, unfortunately, and this case only highlights the fact that justice prevails. If you take the initiative. The more citizens who are aware of their rights, the lesser will be such incidents.

This is one reason the cops leave the advocates alone. These 2 however seem to have some sort of score to settle or had not met their daily collection quota. Like GTO said, if we as motorists know our rights no policeman will get away with badgering us. Cops prey on the fear element and get away with it as well. For how long is the question...
