A wonderful and inspiring write up Tazman. I appreciate your choice of job and the fact that you chose to be independent. However I couldn't imagine the fact that there could really be a test for the map of the city, I mean how strange is that. No doubt that your job would have helped you financially but I am sure that the experience like these will make a better person out of you in terms of facing the challenges of life and boosting self confidence. And about the incident with the drunk gal, really, what a waste.

The City Map test I felt was very Important as Melbourne is a very popular tourist destination and a Taxi driver should know his way around. Thats how developed countries have such efficient cab services.

Its true the entire experience has helped me grow up, understand and interact with different people from various professions/Caste/Age groups etc. These are the days I will keep talking about even when I reach 60's.

Thank you guys for your appreciation. Regarding that girl umm

Taazman, what a wonderful, straight from the heart account!
Beyond shadow of doubt, you will forever cherish this experience, even though you did not kiss that girl!
LOL, there is a distinct possibility you might just opt for being a cabbie again some years down the line! .... and refuse again to kiss her!

Wonderfully well presented!

hey tazmaan, that was one amazing account of being on the other side of the meter.
Doing jobs like these adds up to the excitement - a departure from the monotonous grind of daily life - its strenuous true, but you are doing that for a reason - and are having a good time at it!!

have a great time ahead!!

Wow, nice thread. Great experiences down under. Stumbled upon it late though.

@Tazmaan, is your tbhp-nick a play on the 'Tazmanian Devil' of Australia ?

Me and a couple of friends came upon this bright idea of driving auto-rickshaws at night in Tamilnadu during our Engineering days for making up the huge budget-deficit caused by the excessive consumption of the "fermented golden-coloured malted-barley" beverage.
Phew!!! All this for a word that is just 4 letters long.

Ofcourse India being India, I am glad we did not put it into action.

P.S. : BTW, this is an auto-forum and I am sure there are atleast a few nuts among us who talk to their cars/bikes and even plant an occasional kiss on them. Compared to that, kissing a woman is pretty normal behaviour. So if you did kiss her, its OK.
