Whoa! The path you take to reach the flyover is too narrow and the same is shared by govt. buses to get into the Rly. Stn. bus stop.
Routing all traffic (moving towards Gandhi road) through the Mudichur road flyover will be a total mess and deprives the purpose of the flyover at the first place

+1 . I'm one of the poor souls take this flyover everyday. Everyday my heart starts beating heavily while taking this flyover near TBM railway station.
You will see all buses cut you across and stop dead in front and also cant miss those ACE auto's.
When they will shift the mofusil bus stand near Siddha Hospital?

Totally agree...on the Adyar flyover some of the Yellow board cabs veer from right to left to get into LB Road at the last moment forcing many of the slower vehicles( Activas, Sccotys, M800s,) to take violent last moment panic manouvres. The surface of the flyover is also totally potholed and undulating and it creates a scary feeling if you are riding in the rain.
Kotturpuram is ok enough as long as you dont scrape the concrete sidewalls while coming down the curve towards the river side( Kotturpuram).
(My experience of riding an Rx-135 and Alto K10 on these 2 flyovers overall is scary and mad since most of the 2-wheeler riders on the road have zero idea of braking distance and torque & HP and generally feel since they were able to keep up with the others right up to the approach of the flyover, they can do the same uphill. End result, wheezing rattling 4-strokers hogging the middle of the road and creeping up the flyovers.I salute the patience of the other drivers in Chennai who are ok with this kind of riding.
In Delhi, if people tried such driving on the Outer Ring Road anywhere after Munirka flyover,a bunch of gun-wielding ABC Boyzzzzzzzzzzzzz would crush them under the wheels of their Safari ).

Yesterday afternoon for a change, I decided to walk through Chennai - from Palmgrove to Apollo Hospitals and from there to the Pizza Corner on N.H.Road. It was hot, but not as bad as I imagined it would be.

Saw these cars wheel-locked by the cops on the road near Apollo Hospitals. Some owners were seen calling the cops (on the number in the flyer kept on the car door/glass) to have the cars unlocked.

Reminded me of the time some 15 years ago when I had parked there and returned to find the car missing. Was initially worried that the car was stolen, but came to know that it was towed by the cops - a harrowing experience.

Note : If any of you have to park there, please note that parking on the leftside of the road (from Apollo side) would get your cars locked/towed. Park instead on the right side of the road.

The moment you label a car as elusive, you will see it all the time on the roads. I had said that the SRV was rare on the roads and I keep seeing one every other day.

Crop off the pic to remove Chennai-specific stuff and our malls do look like the ones you see in other countries, don't they ?

The actual pic with the autos and bikes - the mainstay of Chennai traffic.

Finally walking home from N.M.Road, I run into this improptu road-block due to some function at the temple located few metres ahead. Wonder when we will reach a satge where places-of-worship/political-parties/VIPs etc don't inconvenience the public.

Talking of VIPs, while I was walking towards Apollo, there were sirens blaring and a procession of Police jeeps, cars and Ambulances escorted someone in a grey Accord to the Apollo. When will these guys stop using 10 cars just because 1 person has to go to the hospital ? And all this while, traffic was stopped by cops at the lanes leading to this road.

Did any of the OMR regulars notice that the barricades seem to have vanished for the past few days ? Atleast I did not see any on the SRP_Tools - Thoraipakkam stretch.
What a relief !!!

@anekho, is it even possible to convert other country license to Indian ? AFAIK you have to apply for a fresh Indian license.

I am no longer an OMR regular ... until they finish rebuilding the Palavakkam bridge.

Anyone visited chennai traffic police facebook page?
Chennai City Traffic Police | Facebook

If you post pictures of traffic violations, actions are taken.
A good initiative I would say.

Apparently it can be done (I read online) and it is a matter of some form filling, let's see! Really don't want to go thorough the whole process from scratch.

Read about this only yesterday on DeccanChronicle. And funny thing was they had a snap of a colleague in the paper which someone had posted on the FB page and he was fined for dangerous driving. Can't fault the cops because from the snap, it looks like half of him is out of the driver window of his Fortuner, when driving !!!.

I am absolutely sure you would have had the fun of your life picking on your friend. There was also a picture of a policeman riding without helmet. (Was written that he was fined 50 rupees)

Its a good idea but not sure if it will ever be successful. But we have to support and start posting what we see as well.

Now does that mean more delay to cross that stupidly constructed over bridge. Four lanes on either sides converge to 1.5 lanes. Only we can design such bottle necks.

Ya I guess this picture stirred some controversy on the FB page but then one guy posted a video which the original person himself posted on Youtube and later removed. This person had downloaded that video. The video clearly showed everyone present in the car hanging outside while the car was in motion (including the driver). So I guess it was dangerous driving.

It's a secret known only to locals and a very select few taxi drivers --- although news of the rebuilding, and the subsequent delays in the rebuilding , has been in The Hindu this year.

Which reminds me. I need to get across to Palavaram on Thursday. I can use the new Palavaram flyover, right? But how to cross the canal without going all the way to Sholinganallur? Google maps shows a small bridge connecting Pandian Road from ECR to OMR just near the toll. Anybody know it?

Tiny kuppam streets, or tracks that are tough to everything but off-roaders and trucks, are not acceptable to my wife
