My List -

> High beam from the opposite direction
> People honking behind me for no reason
> some unwanted noise from the car. I will drive an extra mile just to diagnose the problem.
> a problematic AC. Especially in the humind summers of Kolkata
> Autos, Cabs and these days even the huge Volvos on the road.
> Bikes coming too close to my car while trying to find their way through traffic.

A normal routine scene at Kadavanthra (Kochi) Jn. No parking board seems to be a piece of decoration

Inside the car, a mosquito or fly can easily irritate me and make me go mad !

On the outside, when I am stopping at a red signal and someone honks from behind, I feel like getting out out my car and giving him a piece of mind, restoring my peace of mind

The usual high-beam worry that troubles most other T-BHPians as I can see here, troubles me too!

I also get irritated by the impatient nature of two wheelers - like not letting me reverse out on a busy street, jumping in after I have turned my indicators on, trying to squeeze through non existent gaps at the traffic lights and jams!

Smile re: Things that irritate/distract you while driving

These days the one thing that irritates me the most is the vehicles driving in between lanes. This makes the following vehicles totally unsure which way the vehicle in front is going to move. These smart Alecs are always the supposed opportunists wanting to switch lane to be always in the fast moving lanes and while doing this block both the lanes because of their stupid driving heroics. No amount of flashing makes them realize they are in the wrong lane.

The worst part is have seen the so called educated drivers with tie and coat hanging in the rear often doing these stunts.

Changing lanes without indicator (Indicator handicapped drivers) is one of the most irritating things. Imagine you are cruising at 100 km/hr with vehicle tailgating you and suddenly someone decides to cut your lane without any notice.

1) When an upper beam is right in your eyes and you have shown the courtesy to dip your lights.
2) Trucks that are close to your rear!
3) Roads that look good but have potholes that you tend to run over at a decent speed
4) Pedestrians/auto rickshaws/2 wheelers that pay no heed to oncoming traffic
5) Any niggles in the car that you have no clue why it would have happened

The list could be longer but this is what I can think for now.

I am not listing out external irritants since that is very much part and parcel of our roads.

Few which I can think about now are -
  • Passenger who keeps giving running commentary.
  • Passenger who suggests you to overtake on blind curves or dangerous scenarios.
  • Passengers who wants to listen to loud music.
  • Noise from car, reason for which is unknown.
  • Phone calls (Even on BT).
  • Passengers who are seat-belt averse.
  • Passengers who keeps dropping food items inside the car, spilling water on seats.
  • Though not 'while' driving - Those who slam the door.

I get irritated when -

1) Spot a person speaking on his mobile while driving. Get angry when he hogs the right lane and moves slowly.

2) See People jumping signals and driving on the wrong side

3) People ask me to move ahead when the signal is "Red". When I refuse they ask me to move a little so they can jump the signal

4) High beam in the city

But what gets me extremely furious is seeing vehicles with no side rear view mirrors. Sometimes both the mirrors are missing

Rattles, AC smell and windshield salt deposits. Yeah anything that relates to the car i drive. Other than that, everything outside that car and on road i ensure i dont fall for it to be irritated. It makes no sense and its just a waste of my time and energy to worry about something not in my control.

Even in the worst of traffic, i find ways to even clean up the interiors and feel good about the machine that is driving me around.

Irritation in the mind, racks everything within you; and if it's when you are driving, it takes a toll on your senses in trying to keep control of the vehicle.
What rattles me? Yeah, aye list below..

Rattles within and from the car. Uugh, makes my mind occupied for the reasons. Dangerous.

Two wheelers who just wanna squeeze from all sides. More dangerous are the ones on cycle as you never know when they would turn. Worse are those you see riding with both their legs down trying to balance.

Three wheelers, or the mosquitos as what they were called by an expatriate who are all around you and just look for space for their front wheel to worm through. And yeah you have some who while looking for customers drive like as if they are on an evening walk.

All those nerds who keep honking behind at the red and some who cut across seemingly on a hurry, as if they have an unplugged bottom.

A companion who sits with you and keeps commenting on your driving style.

Well, it takes a lot to keep control without affecting the car on the roll.

When taking an exit people not exiting in a straight line (very common in NCR)

They want to squeeze in from the very end, only to cause a jam!

There is no end to irritations on the road. So, apart from what many bhpians have already stated, my biggest irritation is loud music inside the car. While it may hurt the sensibilities of dear audiophile bhpians, but I hate a discotheque inside a car. At home, I am also an audiophile.

Thanks!

While Day driving.

- People cutting lanes
- All vehicles parked on road - I wish I could drive like Sunny Deol of Indian and drive my car over theirs.
- People honking With/without any reason
- People talking on Mobile phones
- Bikers overtaking from left when I am turning left

While night driving:
- High beam from the opposite direction
- High beam from the opposite direction
- High beam from the opposite direction
- High beam from the opposite direction
- High beam from the opposite direction

Why only this one? Because I can’t see a damn thing on road to figure out if that irritates me or not.

Apart from the usual chaos, I hate it when people honk when they can see cars ahead of me, and tailgating ! Honking I can survive, but if I'm on a two wheeler I get worried if some one is following me too close. Usually I give way to such "VIPs" but it is not always possible.

I use the Eastern Express Highway and Santacruz Chembur Link Road almost daily to drive to my work place. I drive within the speed limit and try to maintain a safe distance from the vehicle in front, but the thing that irritates me is vehicles overtaking from the left and occupying the gap between my car and vehicle in front. When I try to maintain the safe distance from this vehicle, some other vehicle comes in between and this process continues.
