Man! This thread now has me wondering ten times to go to Total Mall, Sarjapur Road or not. I need to buy some stuff for the house as I just moved to HSR and Total mall I guess is the only place where everything is available under one roof. Guess will have to wait till weekend till I can load my car with a few people and then go.

Note to Self: Learn Kannada, simple solution!

I did the ORR-HSR and HSR-Sarjapur stretch at least thrice today but did not notice anything unusual.
Probably my ride had the KA registration advantage.

At least nowadays ORR has construction going on and there is huge traffic almost after every km and hence I guess the thugs are not getting any lonely stretch to mug people.

Alter: Those thugs have moved to Bannerghatta after the report in the news papers so you wont find them around HSR and OOR for a few days now

At least the thugs are smart.

The police on the other hand,I guess, will now issue another advisory mentioning the helpline numbers of the Bannerghatta police personnel.

If the thugs do not wait for police to come and settle mugger's claims of an accident and start trashing our cars (read property) then we have every right to protect our property. More so when we have not caused injury due to accident. I protecting our property if someone is maimed, and later handed over for investigations then these muggers will learn a lesson or get more back up in future.

So Bannerghatta road now, seems like gonna be head to head with those buggers soon. And unless there are more number of people getting looted or some big shot being waylaid police is not gonna work. Seriously, this whole thing is just getting into my nerves now.

Few of my friends at Ecospace Belendur told me that some the companies have send internal mailers to alert there employees about this incidences. Its better to be aware and be proactive.

I think we could form a group where all the numbers and the area where we worked could be stored in a private file. Whenever someone is in trouble, he could send an SMS with the location to all this group numbers and then the people who are nearest could be on the spot immediately and assist the person in trouble. I think the thugs will be wary if there are more people. For example, there are a lot of people working on ORR around Bellandur, so they could reach the spot in 5 min alongwith their colleagues. We could then probably take the bike keys or something and hold them off till the police comes.

Default E-Mail I Recieved: One more mugging attempt (this one failed)

Alert-Muggers on Outer Ring Road

hi,
this incidence happened to me yesterday. i went to drop my brother
opposite intel to catch the airport bus. i was driving the car after
dropping him and went to advaith hyundai junction for a u turn.
i stopped for the signal behind 4 or 5 cars and as it turned green, i
started slowly. one fellow around 35yrs walked into the road to cross and i
was moving and he came very close to my car and
he banged the back of my car as i drove to take u turn. after i finished the
turn he was in the middle divider and bending down as though i ran the rear
wheel over his feet and asked me to stop.
i was pretty sure that he reached my car after the rear wheel crossed him
and i did not feel any bump of running over his feet. i was reminded of the
recent incidents and so i proceeded without
stopping. within 30 seconds, i saw a motorbike chasing my car and the driver
of the bike around 40 yrs pointed to the feet of the pilion rider and asked
me to stop. as i was aware of the recent
happenings, i did not stop and reached bellandur junction and my car was
locked from inside. he stopped next to me and asked me to pull the car to
the side after the junction. i drove fast and
he follwed me and i signalled to him that i am taking a u turn at sarjapur
junction and to come over there to talk it over and sped. i was watching in
my rear view and side mirrors and saw they
stopped the bike after 100 meters and did not follow me further as there was
traffic jam at sarjapur junction and sure to be caught if i raise an alarm!
i waited in the traffic for nearly 15 mints and
they did not follow me at all till i reached home. i am writing this to
make every one aware about the new modus operandi of these guys. so be
careful when you start the car even near the junction
if someone walks into your car to accuse you of running over his feet! if
needed, we can set a trap for these fellows with prior notification of the
cops at the traffic junction between marthahalli and
bellandur!

Default Email: Motorcycle Gang strikes again.... well tried to!

This is from a colleague, posted on our internal forum. I have omitted the name of the poster, but this is an account of a first hand experience and authenticity of the poster is vouched for from our forum.

It seems the muggers are expanding their are a of operation, or new faces are taking up the profession to make quick money. Posting this for the sake of safety of everyone:

The post:

Folks driving along the Wipro road towards Begur-Koppa and Bannerughata road, please be careful, as the bike gang seems to have expanded their base of ops here. The same incident, as reported by so many people around Sarjapur road area, happened to me yesterday afternoon around 4:30 in Bettadasanapura.

Please note:

1. My car has Karnataka registration, so they do not target only out of state vehicles. But I was alone.
2. The road was not empty, there was another car behind mine
3. These guys were not concerned that there were people walking on the road

In the interest of your own safety, I will request you all not to take this route if it can be avoided, and definitely not when you are alone.
Mugging in Bangalore roads - be careful! EDIT: More Incidents reported-mug_map.jpg
/End Post
The take-away from all these seems to be like we need to be careful on any less-trafficked road in Bangalore that is usually used more by the techies.
