We all know that 3 legged monsters of Mumbai have decided to charge more. The new calculation logic is not as simple as before. Earlier one use to reduce Rs.1 from the meter reading and arrive at the correct fare (I am not talking about fast meter here lol:).

One of my friend and I have developed a small mobile application which can help all mumbaikars overcome the complex calculations and beware of the fake meter cards. I am attaching herewith the link to download these applicaions here.

Hey,
Thanks for the software, will sure come in handy and not let those drivers fleece us.

The new tariff cards are out and to my surprise the calculation is quite skewed towards their side.

Auto Fares are rounded to nearest rupee.

Taxi fares are rounded to .50 for any amount between 0.05 to .75 and to next rupee for any amount between .76 to .99 (Smart guys:deadhorse they dont want to round it to lower rupee)

We have incorporated this change in the new version and it is uploaded at the following location for your free download.

Another updated version with a better look and feel. The software is now available for following cities;
You can download it from the following link.

Bumping an old thread. Mods - if latest one exists please move accordingly.

Time for another round of Auto fare hike. Come this June 2015, you will shell out an additional re 1 for the auto making the minimum fare to rise from Rs 17 to Rs 18. This culminated into a 6% hike. The last hike was in August 2014 when High court had intervened. Also the waiting charges has been increased from re 1 to re 1.20.

A similar hike is seen for the Taxi's where the minimum fares is increased to Rs 22 for a distance of 1.5Km. The waiting charges for taxi increased to Re 1.50. Similarly cool cab fares will go up from Rs 26 to Rs 28 for the first 1.5Kms.

Few other noticeable changes would be:
1) Fine amount for refusal or overcharging hiked to rs 1000
2) RFID tags to be made mandatory to weed out illegally plying autos

Whether these fare hikes is going to improve the auto and taxi services in Mumbai is yet to be seen.

Mumbai autos are still the nicest of the lot compared to Delhi, BLR or Chennai in my experience. However, I'm still surprised about meter validity every now and then.

Just a week back - I paid 185 and 102 rs for the exact same route (Airport to Wadhwa Imperial heights ) to and fro.

All said, its still cheaper than what autos in delhi/chennai would have demanded for the same :)

I have a different opinion on Mumbai auto drivers better than Delhi . I was in Delhi last week and used auto heavily for short commutes and long commutes. To my surprise not a single auto driver refused me. Politely said yes . When driving none of them were rash drivers none of them broke traffic signals.. Hardly drove in fast lane and obstructing the traffic .
I don't need to say how our great Mumbai auto drivers are !!

Having lived in Mumbai for 5 years definitely auto fares are cheap but wouldn't agree that there is no rigging. When I take an auto from Bahaar Cinemas Andheri E to Kurla station, the fares would vary from Rs. 60 to 90 (this was 5 years before). Actual fare would be 55. Further no. of instances of autos refusing to ply is very high in Mumbai compared to other cities.
