Default Audi R8 Test Drive at the R-Drive event!

I was invited by Audi along with many others for the Audi R8 test drive, The event itself was very well organized and all of us were given time slots 3 days in advance, best is everyone had at least an hour to spend with the car, you could in that time choose the RS5 or the R8, and if you arrived early you were served non alcoholic drinks, and showed around other cars, or if you like test drive the A8 or the A7,

I was there dot at 11:00 A.M, My time given to me, Audi India officials were nice, all had everything prepared before time and all I had to do was sign the disclaimer, and they have hired some nice professional race car drivers from different parts of the country and honestly they were nice people, and because I was politely requested to drive the RS5, I did give it a try, honestly I do not like the RS5, and have never really bothered to get deep into it, It is NOT a bad car, its just that in it's price band I find other cars better, and this is a personal opinion so lets not get into any discussion,

Coming back at the showroom, I was a little disappointed as the R8 on this event was the convertible and I some how prefer hard tops, they do offer that extra bit of OOMPH!! Due to the exposed glass engine bay and the dynamics do change for good, but getting back the seats and adjustments were easy to use, and in little time I was in a comfortable driving position, visibility was ok, but not as good as the SLS, but thats another segment and a different layout so will keep comparisons aside, I did not bother about sound systems, or anything else as none have ever interested me, I have never bothered about those things even when we bough the S or any other car, heck I would not care if my S-Class did not have Auto Climate Control or even 4 speakers,

Started driving, and honestly did not feel so good, besides it's eye candy value, while it IS a very fast car, the sense of occasion just did not arrive, it is a wonderful car in the sense that I managed to tackle some very difficult speed breakers and bad roads with ease and not once did I scrap the car, nor was there a moment where I was left wondering if this could be used as a daily car, considering it took care of bad roads well, and believe me if you need to see what kind of bad roads give me few days, I shall upload pics of that road,

I tried high speed turns, hard braking, everything felt composed, everything felt well done, but here is the problem, everything felt too well done, and that itself was dis appointing, I never felt involved, I always felt like I was in a very good car that can do most of my work, but if it can do it, I do not want to buy such a car,

And when I see the price list at 1.5 Crore INR/- there is nothing, and I mean nothing about this car which makes me want to spend on it, I can have the 911 and live a dream, or I can move a little higher and get the SLS which does everything so well and yet gets your hair standing up and gives you the feeling you would perhaps have had if you were a kid in late 1980's if a black S-Class pulled over,

Please do understand these are my opinions, I am no race car driver and lets not get too bothered if you dis agree, as all will have various opinions, will write about the FF sometime soon,

Before I conclude, big big thumbs up to Audi India for doing this event and the way it was done,

Regards,

S350L-E240,

Where are the pics?

You must have driven some nice cars to be able to critically judge a car like R8!

Hmmm... how do I get invited to such nice events? It is another thing that I will be so uncomfortable driving such a show car like R8.

Hope you have pics for FF at least!!

Mate,

Ask fellow bhpian H@r$h@l, how bad I am with pics, heck he has to beg my wife to take them and even when she tries take them I have my big eyes on her, When we were test driving the Ghost for my dad, she actually hid and took a few pictures from behind, sadly Rolls does not like us, they do not have multi adjustment seats up front,

I find it ridiculous and embarrassing doing it, so next time accompany me, and you can be my official photo guard!

About the cars I've driven, not many, but can still pass my opinion right? lol!

Regards,

Kindly elucidate further as to why you don't like the RS5? It got car of the year by multiple car magazines so am wondering what aspects don't suit your fancy.

I understand it has got multiple car of the year etc. But none of that matters to me, I dislike the car, I would pick the C63 AMG or M3, maybe I lack taste in good cars, I love the FF, most here hate it, so I definitely lack taste

I understand you just got one, and its a brilliant car you have mate, have miles of fun and revving time,

Judging by your many value-adding posts n these forums I believe you have good taste. And btw I love the FF if we are talking about the Ferrari here?

Mate,

Yes talking about the Ferrari, and coming back to the RS really, don't take my words in negative manner we all have our personal tastes and grudges and I'm sure you too hate some car which perhaps could be another's dream

And H@r$h@l, trust me the SIG folks were all over trying to take pics and some on bikes was dangerous,

Regards,

It was very nice of Audi to allow Test Drives of R8 on a regular road and I am really surprised that the car took on bad roads without breaking a sweat, as per your experience. That is a good piece of information to keep in mind.

Absolutely,

Keeping my dislikes aside, the car was doing wonderful on bad terrain, like you can see the pictures posted above, infact I took it to my work place road and its even worse and I was able to do pretty good speeds over them bad roads,

Best part is the staff encouraged me to do it to get a feel of how you could use this daily, that's why I said hats off to Audi India for doing the event the way it was done and there were no restrictions of any kind on how long and how you can and want to drive,

Regards,
