In addition to that, there are different engine positions, that essentially help reduce vibrations from the moving pistons.

So up till 4 cylinders, the configuration is I . So we have I 4 , not a V4.

Not always. BMW makes some awesome I-6's

just to add to GTO's comment.... Subaru makes a pretty awesome flat 4 and Porsche does'nt do a bad flat 6 either

Traditionally , or at least since the V config era, we have had V6 engines. BMW does have an amazing I 6 set up found in the 335i.

To add, not only the 335i, all the previous gen 3/5 series had/has really good I-6s.

I6 engines, the most infamous ones that comes to my mind the Toyota 2JZ-GTE and the Nissan RB26DETT.
