What is an ATA Carnet?
The ATA Carnet is an international customs document that permits duty-free and tax-free temporary import of goods during its validity period. The initials "ATA" are an acronym of the French and English words "Admission Temporaire/Temporary Admission." ATA Carnets cover:
  • Commercial samples
  • Professional equipment
  • Goods for presentation or use at trade fairs, shows, exhibitions and the like.
source: ATA-Carnet - FICCI is the only National Guarantor in India : FICCI

Welcome to FICCI ATA Carnet

As simple as temporary import. Wherein you import your car for a specific period (i think it is 6 months) and you take it back when this period expires.

thats great news guys. now the only thing left is to find out where the car is and get some pictures of it.
yes Gordon the car can be here for a time period of 6 months and then has to be taken back. also the car does not need to be registered to indian plates.

the hummer and the escalade i think are on carnet. if they have been brought in by the counsulate then the 6 months time frame does not apply to them. if they have been brought in by a private person then in 6 months they go back.
dippy has'nt the escalade been here for more than 2 years now?
