The old Merc's had the distinct perpendicular gigantic hoods that cannot be seen in recent Merc's.

For example, look at the size of this R129's hood.

You bet! they do look humongus! ....I'm just imagining what would be the SLR's hood like!

It's a huge hood no doubt for the SLR as well, but unfortunately, the V8 can only be accessed in the following manner:



It's not a perpendicular opening style.
