The Badge should read 500 SE or SEL. There are lots of 280's doing the rounds as 500's. I guess alot of owners dont know the designations as in the books it just reads S 280/300/320/400/500/600 and not the SE or SEL part. So what the garage guy fits on the car is what the owner takes.

I guess so speedy, but lets face it folks, owners who buy them were not born yesterday or just left the farm the have been around and would know their RC book from their books of a/c . I would just the clean the whole thing off and buff it and keep badgeless.

Not that the owners were born yesterday or in a farm Canonball. The owners sees the papers and what is in them is what he lives with. My car RC papers read S600 and not 600SE or SEL, so that is what the car will live with. How many owners do you know who would try to find the history of the car by the year of manufacture or with the chasis number? When you look, there would be less than a handfull . That is what you would do, have it debadged and left, but others want the Designation to show the cars worth or stature. For example a 500 and 600 are more expensive and a bigger engine than a 280,300,320,400 etc. So the owner would not want his car mistaken for a 280 or 320 etc. That is why you see many 280's with 500 badges. The way to spot them is only when you open the hood. The 6 cylinders give it away. You would never see a 600 badge on these cars, thank God for that .

The blue S600 that was earlier spotted by President at Bandh and then by Kaveesh at Colaba causeway is also a W140 and belongs to my fathers friend.

Spotted by my father at Inorbit mall Malad. W140 S600 V12. This is another car.

There are two? Wow. Thought yours was the only one. Actually I've been seeing some W140 S-classes running around lately, and everytime one goes by, all I can do is sigh and look up in respect. WHAT a car, what presence.
