^^^ Unfair Shyn , you just snapped the Pininfarina logo onto a black background!

I say it's a Maserati or Ferrari(if it is a Ferrari then WOW...didn't know the 458 arrived so early)!?

just noticed the MH-12-AP-111 (as plates arent blanked out, im taking the liberty to mention the no) yellow 997, is the ex-poonawalla and thereafter mumbai car in the pictures posted above, at the Speedway 2011. Has this car been sold to someone in Hyderabad by its ex-mumbai (DC's son) owner?

Well I think the results will be posted on the Speedway website, and I would bet on the White Racetech'ed GTR to be the fastest one to the quatermile in the speedway event.

@Scorcher: The pictures are from the drag race over the weekend and the participants are required to wear helmets inside the car during the race.

Come on buddy! I know that. But why a motorcycle helmet? That is so ridiculous. When you're driving a car, you don't need visors cos the car has ahem, a windshield.

These are the kind of helmets normally word for car racing.

That is some brilliant lens work man! Good stuff!

And the Maserati GranTurismo is one of my favourite cars! It's art on wheels. I would take mine in snow-white, with the MC Sportline performance-package and dark-blue accents on the brake-calipers and the interiors.

One of the differences between a motorcycle and auto racing helmet is the slight difference in the range of vision. Auto helmets generally have a higher protection rating than motorcycle helmets. They are slightly heavier and some are designed to keep the helmet on your head with air guides for the guys running the open wheel cars just like motorcycle helmets.

Typically, a 'SA' rated helmet has fire retardant material and is required on many if not most of the tracks, whereas a motorcycle helmet has a Snell rating and does not have the fire retardant material in its construction and cannot be used on all tracks. The 'M' rated helmet offers slightly less protection than a 'SA' rated helmet which offers a higher level of fire and impact protection. Think about it, you'd be hard-pressed to get trapped inside a burning motorcycle.

Auto helmets are made to take a direct impact blow from a roll cage, whereas Motorcycle helmets are made to take high speed surface blows across the overall surface area of the helmet. Anyway, some people prefer an open face helmet for auto x only because your vision isn't as limited.

On a different note, the SCCA recommends open face helmets be required for any car with active airbags. According to them the airbag hitting the chinbar of a full-faced helmet can cause serious neck injury. But this rule I think has been shelved since past few years. That being said, one can also use a full-face 'SA' rated helmet that has a chinbar like a motocross helmet and no shield, so no fogging. I guess now you can figure out the logic behind certain types of helmets and why they are used.

So, apart from all the technical differences mentioned, there is no way to tell from the picture if it is a motorcycle or a auto racing helmet. Hence my curious question of how you were able to figure that out from the picture?

To clarify your point, majority of closed wheel racing helmets are full faced including NASCAR.

I love the 4th pic where the GT is parked next to the shack. A powerful pic, highlights the contrast of society we have in this world.
While on the contrary,that might be all the owner could afford after buying the GT , LOL
