| I never heard the rule that GTO mentioned. I mean, that way all the Ferrari's should have been imported from Italy but that's obviously not the case because all of them are RHD and most came from Singapore. I assume the Jags, Range Rovers, Aston Martin's etc. are imported from England, which isn't a problem cos they follow RHD there. If this rule did exist, then obviously it's been broken wayyyyyy too many times |

| Right. My bad. I just did a bit of reading on this and it seems the rule was that we could import the car from anywhere it's produced. So if Cadillac has an assembly or production plant in Sri Lanka, we could import it only from there. Now that's been taken away so we can import it from Bangladesh also even though Bangladesh doesn't assemble or produce the car. Although that still doesn't explain the Ferrari's from Singapore. AFAIK, Singapore doesn't have a Ferrari assembly or production plant. P.S: Sri Lanka and Bangladesh are only examples |

| Are so many Ferraris really coming in from Singapore or is that an assumption you're making? That makes no sense at all, unless they stockpile them there for Apac. Also, just because Italy follows a LHD model does not mean that they don't manufacture cars that are RHD, right? So why can't the cars have come from Italy?

| Ferrari produces their cars ONLY in Italy, So they must be making both LHD and RHD cars in Italy. So Singapore does come into the picture at all !!

Ferrari certainly does produce RHD cars in Italy, but they send them to their official dealers. India doesn't have an official dealer. Singapore does. So they send the cars to Singapore from where Indians import it. But according to the rule (to my understanding atleast), the cars have to come direct from Italy which they are not. | |

| BHPian | f450 please don't confuse us, Singapore is an admin/paperwork location physical dispatch and delivery 100% happens from italy (would be logistically cost ineffeicent to dispatch from Singapore) which is what the customs is concerned with. I can pay ferrari asia my check for the car but before this rule came the car had to be dispatched only from a factory (so if ferrari had a factory in singapore it would actually come from there) now it can be dispatched from any where in the world as long as it is new so now it can actually come singapore. ![]() I understood the part in bold and mentioned in one of my previous posts that AFAIK there's no factory in Singapore, so how did all those cars (that came through National Garage) come from Singapore? And I know you said dispatch happens from Italy but that isn't the case either because I know of one owner who went to Singapore, saw his car, and supervised its delivery from start to end. For that matter, all the Hummers should come from the US. But I think most are instead coming from the Middle East. | |

| BHPian | That is why there is a DRI clamp down now in Mumbai and non of the cars you mentioned have been seen on the road for the past 4 to 6 months. Ask anyone on this site from Mumbai when they saw a grey LC/Hummer/Ferrar/Lambo..etc last? All these cars have gone underground. Now if your friend did actually buy the car from Ferrari in Singapore two things could be possible either they have a stockpile of cars in Singapore and the manufacturer may have given an undertaking that this is their official inventory base in Asia (more like a transit point) which may have been accepted by customes as a logistical supply chain arrangement or it is old inventory being passed off as new and being managed much like the grey with customer taking the reponsibility of clearing it which is why the guy may have gone to singapore justa guess. The fact does remain tha most exotics bought through agents/dealers are off the road for the past 6 months and u know us bhpeans we are observant!! Come to think of it many classified have the same cars up for sale. CHEERS |
