Of all the cars I have driven few truly stand out in my memory as definitive. Here are my top 5...(I've driven better cars since, but for when I drove these, they taught me something).

1. E46 M3: This car introduced me to good handling. Lots of cars are fast. Lots of cars are powerful. Far fewer are the cars that can dance the dance and make you feel elated for having driven one.

2. 996 Turbo: This car taught me what a twin turbo four wheel drive sports car is capable of doing. To say that it redefined what I thought of useful power would not be an exaggeration.

3. Lamborghini Murcielago: Before I drove this thing, the thought of driving it scared me. It's a big car. It's low, it's wide, it looks mean and sounds like nothing you've ever heard before. Once I drove it, most of those fears were long forgotten. The first (and so far only) supercar I've driven. Completely impractical, totally memorable!

4. Formula Renault: This open wheel race car completely redefined what a car is to my mind. Single seater. 190 odd bhp. Sub 500 kg weight. Sequential gearbox (with no syncromesh). Your behind is 3" off the road. There's no power assisted anything. No ABS, no stability control, just you and the car. The steering is absolutely direct. You turn the wheel a quarter of an inch and the car moves sideways instantly. Drove this in POURING rain and got a decent idea of what it's like to race a single seater in bad weather. There is NO VISIBILITY when you're following close behind another car. I have complete respect for any single seater driver who races in any formula in the rain.

5. E92 M3: Honourable mention goes to my M3. Yes, it's bigger and heavier than the previous gen. Yes, there are cars that are a fair bit quicker in a straight line. Yes, it's lost some of it's hard edge. Is there any car that does so much and, yet, makes you compromise so little to own one? No. For that it is the PERFECT performance car to my mind in this country.

So that's my top 5. There's been plenty of others, but these were the defining ones for me.

Top 5 cars I'd like to drive some day:
1. Ferrari FXX
2. Bugatti Veyron
3. McLaren F1
6. Any genuine F1 car
7. Any genuine WRC car

Edit: I'll post pics of each of these cars / moments when I get the chance. Mods, please help me edit this post as required.
