The rear design is too confused. Looks too Peugeot-ish. Would anytime prefer the C-Class in terms of design over this 3.

Also, is it just the pic or are the wheels too small for those wheel arches?

exactly the cars were here in bangalore and chennai the present week, they came to bangalore on aug 29 and left to chennai and came back to b'lore. The 3 looks very samll compared to the C but is definitely more spacious than the former...and thats really surprising.. all 4 cars had start / stop buttons and 5 even featured the H.U.D..The germans were carrying a lot of tst equipment with them and were constantly monitoring the bottom of the cars to see if it would cope up with the indian roads.2 silver 3 series car, 1 silver 5 series car and 1 blue 5 series car was flown down from germany .
the 3 as always is a great handler and performance is superb..and BTW It is indeed a tough task to keep up with the germans .

Aah! that means no sport package for India. It lowers the car by a further inch. Drove the 330i with variable steering, one hell of a car.

Update on the E 90 guys, the Germans are back in Mumbai after extensive testing in the south of India.. they are mighty impressed with the scenic beauty of India.. but definately not about the roads,
Anyways, the cars according to them are doing fine, their major concern being the "Run Flats" which are standard on the E 90 and the spare wheel is not an option..(Provides more boot space they say!!). These guys faced 3 punctures and one Tyre has been damaged with a nice bulge on the side wall.
Ground clearance is also an issue.. they are gonna recommend bad road package for India, which has a slightly raised ground clearance and a stronger underbody gaurd.
Now they will be doing their test runs around Mumbai and Maharashtra with targets being 500 km/day!! Talk about enjoying your job.. especiall after the rocketing fuel prices!!

Regards,
maverick.

Nice to hear the cars r performing well in India....the run flat tyres for our roads r a definate no no...also beamers tend to be much lower than even mercs so a much high ground clearence is a must!!
But what they need to get right is QUALITY.... i have been blabbering all over the forum abt how my experience with mercedes sucks coz of the amount of problem i and several other merc owners i know have bad..... when i heard abt BMW coming to India i was reallly happy but i just realised that the story is the same for beamers.... i study in boston and my cousin here has a the new 545 which she got last year.... she was telling me abt the numerous problem i the car has given and i was shocked....it was wayyy more than my mercedes....to name a few- engine made loud sounds while warm or cold, steering fluid leaked, numerous electrical faults and just last week the ac compressor has refused to start up ...all these problems have occured in less than 1 year! Just makes me wonder with BMW is going to be any better than MBIL or r we just heading for the same story over again....I am not juding BMW by only my cousins experience, have spoken to a couple of my frnds here who own beamers and they too have had several problems with it......not one person says the car is reliable.

Mav that was me. Drove in at the launch in Chicago. E60 sport package has AFS and ARS and E90 has only AFS. Liked the E60 even though the ARS makes the E90 corner totally flat. E90's run flats are horrible and make a thump thump sound as you go over bumps. E60 is much better.

AFS makes the car turn like a go-kart at low speed. Loved it.

Think we need to have some confirmed specs and pricing,,and the most crucial need is to have a service network with full backup somewhere nearer than thane for Mumbai owners,,though for the majority of people this will just be one more car to drool over with a 7 figure price tag,,

Well guys this car is not sold by BMW India.. it was imported through us.. and to make the car cross the $40000 mark the car is fully loaded (with lots of unnecesaary stuff), the guy just bought the car bcos he wanted to be the first one!! otherwise with a lil more money he could have bought the 5 series! u wont see many of these til the BMW plant is up and running..
