Congrats Nandish.

Sherief Saab (imperial s.a) has liked the car means the car should be really great. You should once have a look at his old Merc. Its too good.

the reason to quit the w 140 280 was it would be a small engine.i thought atleast a minimun of a 5 litre is required.
the car is very much from hong kong.it also has the previous service history in the dash board boot, with all contact nos.by the way you have eagle's eye. ;-)
you kidding me a lady bought a w140?i am sure she is reading our threads on team bhp.
Thanks for the compliment Nandish

thanks bro!
the car is in very good shape.when i see places like the c pillar & cabin area near the door it feels like new.i must say german cars are of very high quality.
Hats off to Mr jagadish who has maintained the car well in its initial days.
I want to bring back the car to a very good shape where it is desirable & reliable.

Please check in the boot under the rear window for any rust. This is a major w126 bugbear

There is no rust anywhere in the car other than the left part of the boot.i think the boot was never used.everything in the boot is absolutely new.the stepney was never used & no spek of dust in the boot.
Imperial can you tell me where is motorcraft & do you vouch for the services given by Mr srinath?
I would like to visit him as he would know about the car.

bulls eye bro!!
there is some rust on the left side of the boot because the boot was never opened by the previous owner.
Also i think he had parked it in his drive way, unattened.
There is just a little rust.what do you recommend to get rid of this as i am not planning for any paint jobs soon.

I have been on a comparison trip with w126 in bangalore.i realised that my car had electric seats,ABS.today when i got the wheels alligned & balanced i realised that all the four wheels have disc brakes.
The research is stil on

hi harit,
thanks for the wishes.the car was parked for some time as the owner had many other cars to drive.i am understanding now that this car is expensive to maintain only if i dont take care of it.
i am taking good care of it,got the interiors washed & they look like new.
my first priority like you said is to get the mechanicals right.i am not going by words of local mechanics,i am trying to understand my car & direct my reliable mechanics to work on it.
there are a few w126's lying in bangalore too, immaculate condition 300 sel & s280 which is parked as the fuel distributor is not working.
i am having strange problems,i can hear squeaking noises from the rotors,i am not sure if the brake pads have worn off or is there any problem in the wheel assembly.
once i get to this problem i am surely taking it on a 200 km drive.
i am a different person now.i dont care what people say about my decision to buy a old merc,i am happy i am getting it back to a good reliable shape.
about the w140 it just doesn't get out of my mind, the more i ignore it the more i want it.

If the car has been regularly and properly maintained by the previous owner, expect to pay a proper price. Maintainance is expensive, and you must continue to maintain her properly amd spend money. AND never go to a roadside mechanic for mechanical work. That has killed many 126's. I can tell you that the resale value of these cars is not much, and so people were hesitant to spend on high service bills. You must be aware that some 126's even landed up in chor bazar as they were mechanically finished. I remember that when Concorde motors for Mercedes-Benz in Mahim closed shop, they had about 3 to 4 126's lying there where the owners had abandoned them as the repair bills were higher than what the car was worth. Later, when Sanghi opened their Merc sevice center, they dealt with very few 126 as the repairs were expensive. I remember that one day when I went there, a 126 was lying. Nice looking, but dead. They told me that the car came on a truck, the estimate for repairs was about 6L, the problem was with the electronics, they first had to put in a part costing 60K and then follow further. But when the car was done, what a runner. And the owner was so happy. But they had spent a lot.
The need to emphasise is that 126's are expensive cars to maintain, and if you do not do it properly, the car will fail. There are absolutely no shortcuts.
As far as this car is concerned, I would suggest to use her for atleast the next 3 months, since you are in Bangalore go even upto Mysore. Enjoy the car and be convinced that mechanicals and electricals are upto date. Meanwhile collect bits of missing trim. The paint should be looked into later. Music system is also not a priority.

bout cost price and people laughing, well this I can assure you has happened before. You have to develop a thick skin, and keep trusting your judgement.
I would suggest that you do this car mechanically to top level, hopefully she is already tops, and then look for a W140. Maybe 280 is too small, go for a 320. The V12 engined cars are again difficult and expensive to run. I have not seen Speedy zipping on the road as yet. His M series Merc has no V12 monogram either.

Jokes apart, a very nice car you got there, just maintain it properly with the right mechanics.
Happy Benz-ing!!

Cheers harit

Hi Harit- Dont know why but my inclination to restore and own a W126 seems to just fade away.

What an absolutely clean car! Man, you have me going all green right now. Congratulations on the 126. Got only life, might as well own the cars we lust after. I came "this" close to closing the deal on a V8 W126. Unfortunately, it was not to be. Some other time perhaps.

Here's some basic (yet easy to miss) tips on owning an ol' Benz:

1. Find an expert after-market Mercedes specialist. These cars were supremely well engineering and are easy to work on. Yet, quality of labour is important.

2. Buy parts online (GSF is highly recommended). Probably do you good to stock up on consumables too.

3. DRIVE! The more you drive these ol' Mercs, the better they serve you.

4. Now that she's home, give her a complete refurb job. Change all lubes, filters etc.

Heartiest congratulations.

I was really excited reading the thread title. Sure enough, it didn't disappoint.

I am crazy about these cars. I love w123,w124,w126,w140. When i see a similar shaped car from far, I wish it to be that. Its almost as if i am disillusioned..lol.

Too bad no one will let me buy one.

You have a good time buddy with that gangster ride. President by day, Hustler by night.
