Pics Impounded Lamborghini Gallardo in Delhi!!! (Blue Gallardo)

Was watching NDTV last night. They were talking about a scam in which fake EPCG licences were used to avoid customs and excise on imported cars. This has been unearthed, and various cars, from Landcruisers to Jaguars to BMWs (all shown on TV) were talked about. Also mentioned, a new Lamborghini is lying at the DGAI (??) premises. Delhiites, please go armed with cameras!!!

guys, the dude who imported theese cars stated that he had a hotel some where in Rajasthan so under the import laws he cud import without duty so he did and just went ahead and sold to big corporate honchos as well as a few politicians and now they r confiscating them back. Wonder what they gonna do with them now ???

Well, there was only barren land where the importer was supposed to have two hotels running.

If the cars are confiscated - Rightly so.

Sanjay Bhandari is the man behind this. Officials in Customs will take bribe and doesn't follow the procedures that needs to be followed. This results in lot of customs exempted goods were misused. Here is the article on it.

Ok, this case came to light just 'cos its hard to hide so many exotic machines. What about the people who keep a lower profile i.e. import one car at a time and get away without paying duties through bribes?

Govt to scan EPCG scheme

NEW DELHI: The government has decided to examine the popular export promotion scheme, EPCG, to prevent its misuse in the wake of a car import scam coming to light recently.

The Export Promotion Credit Guarantee Scheme would be examined by an intra-departmental committee in Commerce Ministry, which would see if any measures were required to tighten it, official sources told the media.


So far the haul includes:

Five BMWs - models 520I, X5
• Five Toyota Land Cruisers - models Amazon, Prado, Cygnus V8
• Three Mercedes Benz - models ML 270, S-320I
• Two Lexus - models LS 430, RX 300
• Two Porche Cayenee
• One Lamborghini
• One Jaguar X-type
• One Honda CRV

The move comes following the unearthing of a car import scam, in which the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence arrested one Sanjay Bhandari, who had registered a four-star hotel History Logistics in Jaiselmer and North-West Marwar spa and resort and obtained import licences for cars from DGFT.

These old cars, after being refurbished and passed off for new cars, were sold to high profile customers.

DRI, which arrested Bhandari on August 29, and since been conducting raids on his high profile customers and seizing cars like Mercedez Benz, Porsche and BMW for which payments were made mainly using the hawala network.

Hotel sector is allowed to import old cars without cars undergoing homologation for client use. They can import capital goods duty free under the Export Promotion Credit Guarantee Scheme.

The Lambo was recovered by the owner after 2 days of impounding. he paid the balances taxes due to the authorities. Being a big shot he did have the influence to get the work done immediately. Will be driving the car in a day or two will post pics as soon as i do.

Was way back in September this year that i saw the pics of the Blue Gallardo on the front page of The TOI here in Mumbai, right after DRI went crazy car hunting. It was a small pic with lotsa other foreign cars such as Lexus SUV's, Sports Cars n all but what caught my eye in that small pic too was this 'Italian Polizie Blue' - Lamborghini Gallardo. Belongs to a top notch Delhi Industrialist as per the article. They even named him but i do not recollect the name. Seems like there might be several other Sport/super cars waiting to be cleared by the customs but have got delayed because of all this trouble with DRI and the fraud thingy.

Also read in todays TOI, in relation with H2's that a well known person from Mumbai picked up his H2 only 2 years after it landed in Mumbai after he payed his duties on the car. This Foreign car thing is deep maan!
