Default Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10R and ZX-14R launched in India

Link to News Section

India Kawasaki Motor, the Indian subsidiary of Japanese motorcycle major Kawasaki, has launched the Ninja ZX-10R and the Ninja ZX-14R supersports motorcycles in the Indian market. Although India Kawasaki Motor does operate a CKD assembly set-up at Bajaj Auto's Chakan factory, the two new supersports machines will be imported directly from Japan through the completely built unit (CBU) route.

Kawasaki ZX10R & ZX14R : Launch Report and Pics-2014-kawasaki-ninja-zx10r.jpg

The 2013 Ninja ZX-10R is priced at 15.7 lakh rupees while the Ninja ZX-14R sells at 16.9 lakh rupees, both figures representing ex-showroom Pune figures.

Kawasaki has set up a standalone store at Wakdewadi, Pune, from where retail sales of these motorcycles will commence from 7th of September, 2013. Bookings start from tomorrow. The motorcycles will initially be available only in Maharashtra, and eventually be sold across India through new standalone Kawasaki Stores. The Ninja 300R and 650R motorcycles will also be sold through the new Kawasaki dealerships, which are expected to come up in all major Indian cities.

For now, the delay in ramping up availability of these Kawasaki superbikes has to do with the Japanese motorcycle maker seeking additional time to thoroughly train technicians to work on these high end machines. Direct competitors to the Ninja ZX-10R include the Yamaha R1, Suzuki GSX 1000R, the Honda CBR 1000RR, the BMW S1000R and the Ducati 1199 Panigale. Competition to the Ninja ZX-14R comes from the likes of the BMW K1200 GS and the Suzuki Hayabusa, the latter having quite a fan following in India.

The track-focused Ninja ZX-10R features a 1 liter-inline 4 petrol engine that outputs 200 PS of peak power (210 PS with RAM air) at 13,000 rpm. The torque output delivered is 112 Nm, at 11,500 rpm. The engine is mated to a 6 speed manual transmission. ABS and traction control are standard while the ZX-10R comes with fully adjustable front and rear suspension. The motorcycle also features an electronic steering damper, an all-new frame and an ECO mode for more fuel efficient riding.

Kawasaki ZX10R & ZX14R : Launch Report and Pics-2014-kawasaki-ninja-zx14r.jpg

The ZX-14R is a sports tourer that delivers its spades of performance in a less-frenetic manner than the ZX-10R. Armed with a 1,441 cc inline 4 cylinder petrol engine, the ZX-14R outputs 210 PS (200 PS without RAM air) at 10,000 rpm with RAM air and a peak torque figure of 162.5 Nm at 7,500 rpm. The motorcycle comes with traction control, ABS and three riding modes as standard equipment. From now on, Kawasaki plans to launch two new sports bikes in India each year.

Bring it on Kawasaki!! I think it is 'reasonably' priced in the SBK category for its top of the line tech spec!

BTW. Did anybody at the launch ceremony come across this official ZX-14R specs handout?

Both the bikes have Dual disk upfront, not sure why it has been mentioned as single disk, and ZX-14 is just 172KG

Both produce the same - 197 BHP.
The ZX-10R redlines at a higher RPM.
I was never a fan of the 14R's design, not sure what it was; was it the humongous dimensions, or the front or what but in these pics it does look spectacular.

How about a superbike shootout (ZX-14R,Busa,BMW S1000RR etc.) @parrys ?

Excellent write-up, Parry's.

I've been hearing about the introduction of these 2 bikes for over almost 2 years now. Glad they are finally here.

A few months after i bought the ninja (in 2010), a senior marketing official from Kawasaki, Japan, met a couple of us to understand what kind of riding we do and how we decided to buy the bike and other things. They also met with prospective customers, people who owned SBK's to understand their requirements as well.

The gentleman diligently noted all our thoughts and feedback and although nothing was confirmed, he did hint at a launch of these big ones after a lot of prodding.

So back to the bikes, i love this 14R compared to the outgoing model. Looks a lot better than it's direct competitor - the Hayabusa and of course the earlier 14R as well.

Also, the 14R looks h-u-g-e ; makes the 10R look so tiny.

It is also interesting to see how small and compact these bikes have become - referring to the 10R here.

The prices of SBK's have surely sky rocketed but with Kawasaki's reliability, quality and attention to detail it is granted that there will be dedicated fan following, however small their numbers may be.

Waiting to spot these on the roads and with the introduction of flagship Kawasaki stores, i hope they also stock and sell their merchandise and accessories.

Thanks for sharing.

Good to see Kawasaki expanding their line up . They should have offered the bikes at introductory prices at 10 and 12 L ex-showroom prices ,even at a loss(if they have so) as brand building initiative . They would have been surprised with the number bookings they would have got .

They have free trade agreement with Thailand , imports even as CBU should have been lower .14r at 20 L OTR and Busa at 18L OTR are very steep prices .

I wish they would also launch some of their kick ass middle order superbikes. Like the Kawi ZX6R types at maybe 7- 8 lakhs. That's a huge void in the product offering across the board.

As exciting as it is to notice the launch of more superbikes in India, it is equally disappointing to come to reality and know that these superbikes way too expensive for most of the people.
