Default Dhoni's Kawasaki costs 17 lakhs???

Was watching the news yesterday when they showed a happy Dhoni, ripping around on his brand new Kawasaki ZX-14R.

They also mentioned that the bike set him back by17 lakhs!!!. Is that the actual price of the bike? Why would someone pay 17 lakhs for a bike when you can get an equally potent Busa for almost half that price?

Kawasaki claims this will be quicker than the Busa but cmon, not twice as quick for sure.

That probably includes the dealer commission as well. I don't think Dhoni really spent too much time bothering about the cost.

But a brand new bike which is brought in the 100% legal way paying full duty and registered would be quite expensive. Way more than the regular prices of bikes we see and hear of.

Isn't the ZX14-R supposed to be better than the Busa??

Whats the legal price of a Busa, any idea? Busa's are usually bought for around 8-9 lakhs.

A person that is constantly under public scrutiny cannot afford to take short cuts and MSD may have paid the full price including full customs duty. If that is so, full kudos to him.

Meanwhile lets wait for the day when he becomes a car freak too!

Our local newspaper, 'The Deccan Chronicle' mentioned that it set him back by 11 lakhs. And that other than this new superbike, he already has 5 or 6 others, including the busa you guys talking about!

I say WOW! This man's giving our local munda John Ab a ride for his money (pun obviously intended).

Godspeed,

Alok

According to The Hindu, he clearly says he doesnt have a Busa and have a 14R and TVS building a custom dirt bike as he loves to ride those.

The Busa and the 14R cost the same abroad (give or take a couple of 100$'s), so their landed price should ideally be the same as well. But, novelty factor commands a premium I guess.

BTW....is that 17lakhs really true, or is it just hype created by the media?

And which is the fastest bike in the world? The ZX-14R rite?

The gentlemen's agreement being followed by the manufacturers limits the bikes to only 186mph.

But all the magazine tests I've read have the 14R coming out on top in the 1/4 mile, 0-60 and dyno tests. However, its not much separating the two. At that level, it really only comes down to rider skill, as I don't see the 0-60mph times dropping any further without the use of some high end traction/launch control systems.

BTW, the new Busa is due out soon...!

Price of Bike in India = Price of Bike in the country where you are importing from + Freight + 105% import duty + Misc charges.

Considering the fact that Both Busa and ZX-14R cost around the same in US (approx 11,000 USD), 17 lakhs is way too much. Unless ofcourse, the dealer decided to charge almost 100% of bike price as commission.

Don't care how many bikes he buys and how much he splurges on them. It is his money after all. But if he has paid the customs/levies etc (as mentioned in today's D.C.), this guy deserves applause.

Atleast, he did not follow the example of his team-mate, who inspite of being super-rich and after getting a cool car for free, wanted the customs duty to be paid from public money. I mean, we pay taxes, which end up enabling him bring his fancy car into India. How cool that can be ?

Btw, our local boy John Ab does not have that many bikes. I know someone who leases out his lower floor and he says that he has only one bike. He did not know much about SBK's so couldn't identify it..
The newspapers just jazz it up as he owns xyz no. of bikes. Sure he rides many, which are usually friends' or gifts for trial etc.. but it seems like he owns only one.

..and when the tsunami struck on Dec 26, 2004, the same superstar donated PEANUTS....

Compare that to Leander Paes' contribution of Rs. 1.8 Crore, and you will get the complete picture.

Totally OT. merci, mods.
