  2. Is the XUV 5OO more prone to mechanical failure compared to the Toyota Innova? I read on TeamBHP that they (Mahindra) have fixed a lot of niggles and issues?
  3. While driving the TD car, the XUV 5OO's engine noise was very harsh and audible on the inside as well. Is the same true for the normal XUV's? Also, the TD car had done close to 17,000 kms and the dashboard was also rattling over bad roads.
  4. Could the Scorpio be considered as well? Is the ride quality good on potholed roads? Not to exagerrate but, our entire roads are covered with potholes, from our house to the town.

Thank you all for taking the time to help out
A simple answer to all your questions is a BIG NO to XUV or Scorpio if you found Innova's ride to be bumpy. Period.

Agree. Xuv is not good over potholes as it has lot of lateral movement. Innova will be a better choice. Xuv is a cruiser on tar road. There is no harsh engine noise or in cabin rattling after 40k in my xuv. Take a test drive over potholes and you can decide yourself.

Default Re: Mahindra XUV500 vs Toyota Innova vs Others

Dear all, thank you so much for taking the time to weigh in with your thoughts and opinions on the issue. I apologize for taking such a long time to reply to all your responses, I had my final exams going on for M.A. (3rd Sem.) and was busy with the assignments and seminars.

Anyway, first of all, as some members have pointed out, we really liked the highway drive with the Innova but had never experienced the ride in our town which is what made us dislike our new acquisition so much. New roads are being laid in my town and as a result, there are large potholes all over. This made the ride more terrible in the Innova I guess. In the course of my temporary absence from TeamBHP, I had driven the Duster AMT and my Cousin's Scorpio S10 (4WD Version).

While on my way to Guwahati, I took the chance to visit Renault Nagaon and TD the Duster AMT. The ride was, as expected much more comfy than in our Innova. Coming to Scorpio, I drove it over the same roads in our town, and it was the same as our Innova. I got pushed right and left in my seat due to the crater sized potholes on our roads.

At the same time, while I was going through exams, seminars and all, the Innova had been driven for around 8,000+ Kms. And now, the suspension feels so much better, the ride is much more comfortable, also it feels like the engine has opened up. My parents and I thought that its better not to sell the car so quickly, that too after just one month of purchasing it. We have decided to keep the Innova and maybe sell it at a later date. After all, the Innova feels at home now on bad patches of road and it has constantly proved its worth in the countless highway runs we had with it since we bought it.

Thank you once again to each and every one of our wonderful BHPians for taking the time to answer my queries and giving me helpful advice along the way
