Vikram,

my 3.0 has completed 2 years and bro's 2.2 has completed almost 5 months.

And yes i have driven the 2.2 extensively now short distance and long distance.

So i would say if someone is buying a new safari,he should go for 2.2

no 2nd thoughts.

Hi All thank for your inputs,

Considering all the above mentioned inputs, i went to see the beasts(3.0) which they are offering, i found three EX and one VX.

As i feel they are very desperate to push this stock, they are very much oblige to take us to the yard and test drive the beasts by ourselves to find that 3.0l are good onces.

The Sales person escorted us to the yard to show us the 3.0l 2 black and one white EX. There was one more VX silver. However we were only interested in the EX series as we will go for our own ICE and not considering the AB and ABS.

The beasts was just stagnant and may not have driven much by seeing, but you never know. Overall for us its very difficult to find that these beasts are 1yr old. as they had all packing intact and no sign of usage. We checked all the interiors and body and was comfortable. As we came to know that they were not able to sell these beasts for 1yr we decided straight to give our offer.

the onroad price is 9.80 for 3.0 EX and we asked 200K upfront with pad/bumpers painting with 2+2 warranty. They are yet to get back to us upon our offer and if they dont match it i think we will back out and see for other options.

And as suggested for used car, i would not prefer.

Regards
Tabrez

Who is the dealer Preprna or Manipal ?
As these Safris are standing in yard for over 1 year do not buy them even if they give you 300 K discount.

Tabrez,

2.2 VTT Lx is approximately 9.15 On road in Bangalore.
2.2 VTT Ex has follwoing features of Lx

- ICE ( As you want to get your own ICE no point for you)
- Driver Seat hight adjustment.
- Keyless Entry ( Can be fitted in lx by Tata guys for 3.4 K)
- Engine Immobilizer ( Can be fitted by Minda Huf if your dealer agrees to provide warrenty, Wireharness is not left in Lx so an ECU wire needs to be stripped )
- Body colored bumpers ( Dealer can paint for you on Lx at around 8 -10 K)
- Fog Lamps ( OEM tata Can be fitted on Lx at 2800 Rs)
- Rear Fog lamps ( Can be fitted on Lx but you may not need)
- Rear defogger ( Can not be fitted with out chinging rear wind shield)
- Rear rooftop AC vents and Coil ( Lx has rear AC vents near to floor instead of roof, It Can be fitted aftermarket on Lx , But as AC is very powerful in Safari , You will never need it actually)

So in Lx you can not fit
- Rear defogger ( In case you need this despirately get it fitted by spending exchange of windshield estimated to be under 10 K)
- Engine immobilizer in case your dealer does not fit and provide warrenty
for ECU.

So overall 2.2 VTT Lx is your best bet within your budget.

If anybody wants to buy a new 3.0 Safari, here's a price list for reference:

Safari 3.0 dicor or 2.2 VTT dicor ?-safari-pricelist.jpg

I realize the picture quality is not so good but hope the photo serves to remind folks that the 3.0 is still available. Please bear in mind that the vehicles would have been lying in the yard for some time.

Dude I do not think the 3.0 safari has been around for 5 years. You may be talking about the 1998cc turbo safari prior to the 3 liter safari. Correct me if im wrong, but i think im right.

Default Safari - USED 3.0 VX Vs NEW 2.2 LX

Please help me with your expert advice.

I seem to have done all the crazy thing I could do on a car (most of it would be normal day to day happennings to most of you) and have decided to go for THE SUV, Safari. After going to the market I could understand that Safari did not excel very well in the second hand market and decided to try my hand in that market as well. However I couldnt manage to find a 2.2 Dicor VTT on the second hand market at all. But I could find a handfull of 3.0 Dicor. Let me explain my options below with an example.

Option 1.

Brand new 2.2 VTT LX ( I guess that is what I can afford) I wish to procure the stock alloys and tubeless and customise my ICE (modest) and trade off rear glass for one with de mister.

OTR for a LX comes to 8.25 Lakhs and I am confident that I could beat of 50k discount including insurance and get tubeless tyres for free. I guess I would have to shell out another 60k (Approx) for the rest I wish to procure.

Option 2.

Used 3.0 VX 4X2
80K done
June 2007
Pending check of the vehicle with TATA dealer for any accidents etc. I will do that first thing in the morn tomorrow.
Can buy this beast at 700K

My Usage:

30 Kms a day in City / Highway. I have no science as to why I want to own an SUV.... I guess I am more of a heart person than the mind

Occasional Trips in Highways, Yearly 15000 - 18000 to be driven.

My decision points between the 2 would only revolve among the following:
1. FE ( I expect this is going to be a huge difference. The 2.2 VTT - 11/14 in city/highway. The 3.0 - ?/? in city / highway)
2. Maintenance ( Supposed to be low in both the cases)
3. Any major defect identified in the 3.0 engine? (Owners please comment)

I have driven the 2.2 VTT and impressed with pull the beast puts together but I guess I can compromise a little for 115 horses that the 3.0 provides. My 15 km to work (one way) takes 45 mins to an hour on a bad day.

Any further information on this would be much appreciated including price points for new / used safari...

No comments on most accessories listed here. But why the rear demister screen? The rear windshield as such is of little use on the Safari (atleast to me), but the elephant-ear like outer rear view mirrors definitely are .

Wonder how many of us owners have a "science" factor attached to buying one, hehe. Welcome, in advance, to the gang!

Sorry if it disheartens you, but expect the 2.2 to return between 9.5-10 kmpl in city, with moderate usage of AC. 14 +/- 0.5 kmpl is usually returned on the highway runs.

Other information:
1) Expect U-turns to be a tricky situation, in most cases.
2) Letting you to explore the car over your days of ownership. But if I am to be believed, it would be a pleasure, with certainty.

Cheers.

Personally I would pick the new 2.2 LX over the 3.0 VX 2x4 any day! Especially if its already clocked 80k and is coming with a 7 Lac tag attached!

A brand new 2.2 for 775000 (after discount) and a used 3.0 with 80k on the odo for 7 lacs.!

Isn't the better option pretty clear here or am i missing something ?

Edit - I guess KB posted while i was typing.

I am sure you meant 8K. I would not go near a Safari with 80K on the odo.

8K for a June 2007 vehicle is highly unlikely. I am sure he meant 80K.

@KBalii: For how long do you intend to keep the vehicle? I would advice you to go in for a new 2.2LX. Its better than an abused 3.0VX anyday.
