my dad has test driven both and found the x5 to be more driver oriented: more fun to drive while the q7 was more sluggish - like a boat really.

When it comes to road presence the q7 wins hands down. see one in your RVM, and you automatically give way

IMO, go with your heart.

What is the OTR for the x5 and q7?

your not considering cayenne/ML?

cheers

whats the OTR price of both the cars in Chandigarh?
the Taxes here alone makes it expensive in bangalore by almost 5-7 lacs

I presume you are considering the diesel engines?
If you enjoy driving then go with the X5.

Whats offer you getting on the X5? Bargain with dealers in Delhi too, all luxury car dealers are desperate to make a sale in these times, push hard and you'll get a good deal.

Moreover, the X5 will be stress-free to own, thanks to BMW's optional all inclusive BSI plans.

The Q7 facelift will be launched in a few months, hence I don't think it is the best time to get one.

The new ML at 58 lakhs ex-showroom is really good too !

The X series has a 0.01% rate of interest scheme going on.

Both are great SUV's but my opinion would definitely be the X5. Both are feature rich but the Q7 just turns me off..

the audi is 59 lak and the bmw is 61 and you get a 0.1% interest rate or 2.5 lak off. so both of them are the about the same. the X6 is way to expensive and the cayenne is not in diesel yet and i just dont like the merc.
thanks for the help.

ive test driven ml320,Q7 and the X5 .

and i chose the Q7 (i own the previous X5,not the 2008 model).Q7 has nice features(but you need to pay for those special ones like bose surround, panoramic sunroof, reverse cam and many more) .good pickup.superb exhaust note . and its fun to drive.(especially in the S mode) .lol.

both have their pros and cons.

if the owner loves driving the car himself , BMW is the best, if he drives the car sometimes ,audi is the best, and if he wants luxury then ML is his choice.

upto you.buy what your heart says, think THRICE before making the desicion.its not a normal gypsy or safari. its your DREAM suv ! and an EXOTIC !

P.S.
i didnt like the ML.

Hi - I had test driven both these vehicles while I was in the US, as also the ML350 and Cayenne, and had gone for the ML because it was more luxurious, felt a lot smoother to drive. Was very happy with the ML for the 2 years I drove it.

Back in 2007, X5 was about to get a facelift, so did not want to buy the older looks and the Q7 felt too large (probably the reason Audi rolled out the smaller Q5).

If you need space and loads of it, won't be self driving most of the time then go for Q7. It's a decent piece of machinery, feels very solid and with mild chipping can put a very wide grin on your face. These days I'm taking mine to the hills of Uttarakhand or driving through the Rajasthan in May and enjoying every bit of it. Mind you I have two kids and the journey is fast and enjoyable. FE is good too. My trip computer shows 12.5 ltrs/100 km average now.

X5 if you want to self drive most of the time, and don't mind a little cramped seats. Else this is an excellent driving machine. I didn't go for this as the third bench was utterly useless and the second row too was comparatively cramped (compared to Q7).

If 5 seats are Ok then now I'd have gone for Cayenne with my eyes closed. Hope this helps.
