If you are a very very serious buyer, PM me and i will tell someone from Audi to get in touch with you directly. I know this about bombay, no idea about other cities.

I've added another update here:
http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/indian...-discount.html (Audi spare parts waiting period (4 months!?) & A4 30% discount?)

Absolute value for money, BUT it's a Skoda. So all peace of mind regarding service is outta the window.

Please suggest!
if you are a performance seeking driver, go for BMW3 series/AUDI
for luxury --skoda superb,
status + durability-nothing like MERCEDES .

Durability for mercedes is not right, there are many reports of c and e class having problems and I think GTO had problems too.
No extended warranty on mercedes, this can be a huge problem.

If your budget is 30L then don't even look at a skoda car.

And the post about Audi being low status? Seriously?

At the topic starter, did you testdrive any cars yet?

@lamborghini @anekho: Merc still rule the Indian luxury market but thats my opinion. I am not saying that others are not selling, but comparitively yes Merc is more status than Audi.

Also, the base package Mercs are expensive than Audi. Even if Audi MRSP is more, they give discounts. Also the price depends on the spec of the car, Audi A4 3.2 FSI is more expensive to 5 Series.

7 and 5 are selling but not A8 and A6. People are still waiting for the new E to be launched in India. And I know Merc is pushing its previous Merc owners to buy the current versions at an attractive prices, still previous Merc owners are waiting.

As I mentioned these three brands are all at same class, its the perceived image that we Indian have of these brands. Our roads do not provide enough to explore the upper limits of the cars.

As Humm himself wants to drive and have fun, Audi wont be able to match the rear wheel drive of either two. Again, I myself have done 250kph on Autobahn in an Audi A4, but on twists of Salzburg most fun was 3 then C and A4 lagged behind. All were petrol cars.

Again, for the owner his car is best and is always in love with the car. Humm should enjoy the car and love it to the core at end of the day.

if you want a splendid car BELOW 30Lakh you may try considering the new Honda Acoord too.

if you can stretch your budget by 6 lakhs, Audi A4-3.0 tDi is a better option!

If he is streching his budget to 30L then why skoda or honda?
Merc is fine, but 3 series is a better choice.
Since his criteria is of better ride quality, his options resides with the Audi A4.
3 series has bumpy ride.
And Audi is picking up the status gradually, and it has good looks as well.

I have something totally different to suggest, you can consider the Volkswagon Passat. It is spacious and its comportable and luxurious and you wont have to stretch your budget too. But don't expect any enthusiastic driving

@Sn1p3r, i suggest you look at the July sales figures. From what I can see, the A6 and A8 have whipped the BMWs and Mercs out.
In this segment, all these cars are prestigious in their own way. I for one find the A4 more prestigious than the BMW/Merc. However, the 5 series is definitely a much more prestigious car than the Merc/Audi.
Also, as a premium car, with good ride quality and FTD factor, nothing comes close to the A4. The BMW has a harsher ride, and the C Class is much smaller and not as much fun to drive.
BTW, Mercedes is pushing its previous owners to upgrade to a higher segment, but I am quite sure many arent. A family friend who owns an S350L, is not going to replace it with another Merc. Instead, he now has a 7 series and an A8. Same with others in our family!

I second that. Someone I know just replaced a fairly new E280 CDI with an S.

Dear @lamborghini : I am not a huge Merc fan, but what I stated was the ground in most of North India. My brother just sold his E and is waiting for new E and in the mean time shifted to new Superb but not BMW nor Audi.

The answers I got from almost 50 friends and friends of friends who have these cars in family.
Ask any youngster: Ans is BMW.
Ask any woman driver: Ans is Merc.
Ask older generation: Ans is Merc.

Again as you mentioned, all cars have their place. This is same to what I mentioned in my first post here. To each his own.

I see that we agree to disagree

As for segment change in competition of 5/A6/E class. The new E will regain its territory. That is Merc's bread and butter. It will definitely be a blood bath in the segment.

A8 is sedate does not stand apart, BMW 7 is a boy racer gone rich and raising family. S class is old-mobile. Again in this segment S and 7 rule the roost. I have two 7 and one S standing near my house everyday and frankly I think 7 looks disproportionate, S looks better. A8 is not common in Gurgaon, I only saw one doing TD on Golf course road.

As for the stats for India goes, I have not checked it.

@flyingspur: He went from Merc to Merc. I am a bit confused as you second the thought.
