Question Is used Safari worth a look? - Safari owners please comment.

Hi Guys,

I am looking for a used Diesel SUV and currently there are only two options, 1.Safari and 2. Scorpio. After a while I omitted the later because of the high resale price it commands.

I have two options in front of me:

A. 2002 Dec EX 4X2 Mumbai regd single owner 51K driven- seller asking for 2.90L

B. 2003 Dec EX 4X4 Cochin regd second owner 96K driven- seller asking for 3.4L

My first question:

Is it economical to buy a second hand safari of your average KM per month is under 2K, would a used safari burn big holes in the maintenance part?

My second question:

Is TCIC a good option or should I look only for DICOR models?

My third question:

Would I get decent vehicles under 3L, anybody seen good cars with sellers?

Thanks in advance for all the Expert advice.

->Depends what kind of a vehicle you are getting.Would recommend to get the history of the service and maintenance records from the TASC from where the safari used to get services.
If possible get it thoroughly examined at any of the tata authorised service centres. If would cost you a mere 500 bucks but would give you peace of mind in the long run.

My second question:

Each one has its own merits and its own set of issues
TCIC->Under powered but reliable.
DICOR_>Slightly more in bhp than TCIC but rumoured to have lots of electrical issues.
My yearly maintenance of the DICOR varies from as low as 2k to as high as 56k

All TCICs should be under 3L but you won't find many good DICOR's in the south of your budget threshold.

Thanks in advance for all the Expert advice.
