Default Why Bolero VLX feels much peppy compared to Grande mkii ?

I recently did TD Grande mki GX model. (TD written in a separate topic).

Incidentally next day I got a frantic call from a friend's home. He was in the factory and the road to their home was being ripped open for some drainage line job. SO the road was being rendered unusable for a week. Hence his wife was wanting me to get their Bolero out before the road is dug.

THis was the first time I drove bolero and boy, she was pulling off so easily. Compared to it Grande felt so slow moving from stopped condition. Bolero clutch was hard like rock compared to very light one from Grande. Anyways.

I got interested in why Bolero is pulling off so fast and easily compared to Grande.
I have figures now.

Grande with DICOR : 120PS@4000 torque 250Nm@1500rpm Bolero CRDe : 98PS@3800 255Nm@1800

Is it coz Bolero has higher torque at higher RPM that she pulls up much faster from rest. Then would the higher power of Grande engine show up later at high speeds leaving Bolero behind.
Grande weighs 2.6 ton. Is it the reason for sluggish start.

Please help me comprehend.

MODS: Pls move this to apporpriate thread if required.

Hope the Grande TD vehicle did not have an abused set of clutch plates.

Else, the weight could make a difference, IMO.

What are the 0 to 100 kmph time figures for both the vehicles, I wonder. That way we would have some numbers to look at

Firstly it's Low gearing vs Tall gearing. Then the Bolero VLX has negligible turbo lag compared to Grande DICOR vtt. The result is the Bolero feels more tractable but the Grande scores on top end power delivery and relaxed cruising on Highways(due to taller gearing).

Two point primarily:
  1. The bolero has a kerb weight of around 1600kgs whereas the Grande MK-II weighs around 2 Tons. So the BHP per ton is higher for Bolero.
  2. Secondly, even though the Grande MK-II makes 250 Nm at lower RPM than the NEF CRDE, the zero turbo lags gives the Bolero the punch. Also the NEF CRDe engine is much more rev happy than the VTT engine.

The two below replies say it all.

Power to weight ratio and gear ratios.

To feel the difference more clearly, please TD the Bolero DI and then post your comments here.

Just seeking a clarification

No importance of Torque ! Whatsoever
IMHO Torque to weight ratio should be more important for first gear luggability

Any takers
Cheers

^^ Torque is very important, but it's the torque at low revs, not the peak torque figure. That why i mentioned less turbo lag in case of VLX, which means higher torque.

The main culpit for the Grande MKII is it's weight. But its BHP will make for much higher top speed and highway cruising ability with less stress on the engine.
