Visited Kaas yesterday, September 22. Left Mumbai at 5 am. Since I live in Parel, got a fair bit of traffic, even so early on the morning, the Ganpati devotees. The expressway was also quite busy. But have seen a lot worse, so was quite fine. There was an Innova ahead of me. He effortlessly drove through the traffic. All I had to do was follow him.

NH4 is being widened. But, the road surface has become quite bad. Perhaps because of the monsoons.but definitely needs resurfacing. Quite a few potholes.

Reached Satara at 9 and Kaas at 9.40. Parked near the lake. Had to walk back a bit, but even that was through the small hills, so a very pleasant walk indeed.

The trip was certainly worth the effort. Thanks to one the guards there, walked a bit ahead of the main area to a small lake, which had some water lilies. They were so delicate to look at, seemed like they were made of the finest Brussels lace. Saw a butterfly, which was almost as big as a small bird. Couldn't photograph it, more's the pity. Saw a hoopoe, which almost posed for me.

Also went to Thosegar Falls. Again an effort worth the while.

Left Thosegar at 5 and reached Parel at 9.40 pm.

Total distance clocked 632 kilometers. Total toll paid: Rs. 570. Fuel efficiency: 17.1 km per liter.

Ok, one more to kaas, however, i am travelling to pune tomorrow and from there i need to head on either mahableshwar or satara. Am planning of spending saturday evening at mahableshwar or satara and return on sunday. Any idea how satara will be on sat - considering it will be visarjan day. Any good options to stay near kaas, have couple of elders and an infant with me.

Any inputs on Mahableshwar Kaas road condition, does it exist and is it motorable, will be in a indica/fiesta.

Look forward to everyones inputs on this. Thanks

Satara city would have traffic due to visarjan processions.
The city does have a whole bunch of hotels, but being a week-end in the flower-season, not sure about the availability. Maharaja Regency (the most popular) would definitely not have a vacancy. Do try budget grade places like Rajthadri and Akaar International. Sagar Deluxe and Mahandra Executive are supposed to be good places. Please try your luck on Saturday morning.

Mahabaleshwar-Kaas is a dirt track as far as I know and should be avoided. If you are coming from Mahaby, possibly try Mahaby-Tapola-Bamnoli-Kaas route.

Hey all!

Visited Kas again this year, though a trifle late I guess (Oct 5th). Most of the flowering was gone, but still got to spend some quality time with literally no crowds around being a weekday! Drove all the way to the actual flowering area and got to see quite a bit of what I missed during last year's visit - especially when the clouds paved the way for a view of the Bamnoli lake from atop! Though there was a slight drizzle, the time spent there was absolutely refreshing and was glad to soak in all the lush greenery during the drive.

Here are some pics -
At the plateau:

When the clouds cleared we saw this:

Flowers, flowers and more flowers!:

When Driving back - clouded and fogged, with barely any visibility!

Thanks, SDP.
This time round, it was more of a discovery - never knew this place was so diverse! It appears a couple of attachments aren't showing up. Will try to post them over the weekend.
