I'm in for Sunday, 25th.

Google maps shows the place is 40kms away from PVR Forum Mall, Koramangala. How about that as the starting point?

Would be great if the meet gets pushed to next weekend. I'll be back in Bangalore and can join for a nice photo shoot at Hesarghatta. Been wanting to go there for quite some time!

Is Skandagiri still open for night treks ? Last I heard, the cops were discouraging such treks

2 weeks ago, 33,000 birds were culled and the area has only been recently sanitised.

Gents; If you do decide to go, please exercise caution.

You're right. That was put in place after a few adevnture hungry guys fell off the mountain in 2010. Trekking in the dark is risky and not the safest thing to do.

I was there in Nov'10. The villagers were able to circumvent the cops by taking us on a route that wasn't manned by them. Rs. 500 or more is big money for a villager and they wouldn't necessarily care about safety. We did slip a couple of times, but wasn't anything to worry about.

We'll knock it off the list if there was this bird flu problem till recently. We don't want a team-bhp sickness meet next time . Aviorp will fix up another place for us

Much more than discouraging. Night treks are actually banned now in Skandagiri. I wouldn't be particularly inclined to tour a place hiding like a fugitive. Better to seek alternatives where we can freely walk around.

@vinu_h, nice place to do a night trek. I had gone twice a few years back.

As far as I know, the reason cops have banned treks there is not because some adventurers fell off the cliff. It was banned because of excessive pollution in and around the surrounding forest area. Trekkers would dump plastic bottles, glass bottles, biscuit packets, etc. Some revellers would consume unmentionable things and misbehave, causing nuisance to the surrounding areas. Not only did this littering result in pollution, it (discarded junk food) also used to attract wild bears, monkeys etc near the village. The villagers complained to the police, who decided to temporarily restrict tourism into that area to control these problems.

Source of info : one of my colleagues, whose native place is next to Skandagiri hill

Polluting a mountain means death for it. Killing us off may be it's way of warning us. Just kidding. Someone actually fell off it and that's what brought the cops and the ban.

In that case, both my colleague and I stand corrected . He was telling me about the problems they used to face there on a daily basis, and how the village dwellers used to repeatedly request the police to take action. It finally happened after the techie's death I guess.

@Nilesh : Hesarghatta is cancelled for now yaar, otherwise we could have applied for SL

Kanva, there is nothing much to see IMO. @brraj and another member had been there.

Any other place would be nice. If Kanva is finalized then also no issues. I am in.

I haven't been to Kanva and would love to see it. We could combine that with Kokkere Bellur if we have time left.

How about

Muthyala Maduvu (One day Trips - Muthyala Madavu (Pearl Valley)) - Greenery and tiny water fall - 45km -->
Madhugiri Fort - Mountain climb -110km -->

Would love to join in. However, this weekend won't be possible, will make it next weekend. How about devrayanadurga or is everyone bored of that place ? I loved it the last time i went there, some 80 kms from bangalore, we may have to start early though.
