Karting in Kochi

the whole process was set off by 2 very enthusiastic verna CRDI owners who wanted to meet the regular cochin gang.
Sameel and binoy b22.
since they were both in town, and hydra needed to buy us pizza,
I SMSed zak about having the meet on saturday evening.
pat came the reply- Why not tonight? I thought-Why not indeed?
that thought got re inforced when A S H V I N texted me saying why not today?
Fine- changed plans, sent out another round of texts to everyone I was in touch with, about the evening meet near vallarpadom.

there was an enthusiastic response from the usual suspects.

The unfortunate few
1.Binoy b22 had to pull out, because the meet was a day early
2.muneemmk was stuck in coimby due to the hartal
3.etrnlwanderer was out of station
4.Hydra's plans were washed away
5.mansidea was out of range(work harder man!)
6.govigov was switched off
7.vivekji05 needed a longer warning than 2hrs(its always sudden at TBHP cochin)
8.wischu- stuck with exams
9.ram hyundai- macchuuuuu!!!! what happened?

planned to meet at 6.00 pm at the usual place near goshree bridges
zak was 5 minutes away when i called him.
but surprisingly- he was actually only 5 mins away this time.
I got there 7 mins after i called him.

we didnt meet till 20 mins later though.
ASHVIN(tired of typing the spaces man-please forgive me) pulled up in a 2.4 litre accord with his friend.
the accord is getting modded and the owner needed ideas. we have given him an earful. i suppose he'll join the forum soon when his head clears up after the modding 101 lessons.

got a call from zak asking me where I was. i was thinking this was some sort of game to make us think that he was on time. after letting him know our location, we sat down and waited thinking it would be another 1/2 hr before he calls us again saying he's 5 mins away.

WRONG! there was this rumble a few metres down the road, and a lot of dust, as soon as i hung up the phone.
it's a bird! its a plane! no! its superzak in a seriously muddied qualis!!!
he launched rally style off the bridge that was, till then, obscuring him from our view and came sliding and drifting towards us.

people then arrived in quick succession.

after being attacked by an unruly gang of mosquitoes, we decided to go karting.

we(atleast I) crawled through traffic till edapally, then let loose till the airport.
each of us has our own story from his point on, and it would be best to tell them individually.
drpullockaran and nikkibike were already there.
sameel had overtaken me near kalamassery and had disappeared down the horizon a long time ago- but he was still not to be found at the karting track!(he got lost)

chatted longer than I karted. raced with JayD for 12 laps. watched zak spinning out every 25 metres.

supervised drpullockaran and nikkibike to ensure they did a good job bleeding the brakes of on of the karts.
Guys! work was far from satisfactory! I'm sure zak, who was spinning out constantly on that kart will agree with me. next time, be sincere!

split early,9.30pm with nikkibike.
he was minding his own business and driving rather decently when I overtook him after aluva. few minutes later, he showed me why even steeroid in his safari worries when nikki is in his swift.

putting his extra wide tyres to good use,he was cornering at speeds i wouldnt dare do in a straight line. kept up with him till palarivattom jn on the NH byepass, from where we went our separate ways.

it was a great evening. and thanks everyone for showing up on such short notice!

It was one helluva day!
I was doing my usual lazying around the town due to the Bundh/Harthal whatever. After friday prayers, Aha! got the sms from Ripper. Called him back and made him understand the joys riding the town when there are no irritating mosquito rickshaws and horrendous buses. Soon, got the change of plans and it was all SET!

I left home at 5:46pm! A record. Reached the location, drove ahead in the mud, water whatever I could find there. After some good splashes and expletives from some people around there, I parked and waited. Waited, waited, waited, waited....... and waited!



I was the only soul in the area!


I waited in the muddy waters for vain! (#@@()$&&!!!

Then I called up Ripper and he says that he arrived 15 mins ago and he too is waiting. Damn! I drove back and saw A S H V I N (yet to be tired of spaces buddy), his friend Sujit and Ripper himself.

Then as told by Ripper in his post above.

We reached the karting track to see Nikkibike and DrPullockaran already there. And only 2 karts on the track. Soon, DrPullockaran was on the job. Believe me, he is an expert doctor when it comes to repairing karts.

I was worst in the most powerful kart out there. Horrible and pathetic I was.
Next time, I will stick to normal karts until I get some hold on the big Uns!!

he he heeeeeee. you teaser. you tempted and prompted me badly to push the car to its limits. and yeahh. I thoroughly enjoyed the present handling of my drive!

this is what i dont understand! if I overtake someone, it means my average speed is greater. thats all. it was not an invitation to race.

I have to deal with this on a daily basis on the 4 lane.

but i admit,i overtook you fully expecting what was going to happen next
was great fun! but dont want to do it too often. single dose is enough for me. dont want any next time.

hey! Sorry for the late post, but my net conked out yesterday!

Friday being a hartal, i was lazing at home when zak called me up and told about the meet near goshree bridge. Reached there a short while later, and foundv Zak, Ripper,A S H V I N and aaha, were already there and were discussing about modding an accord!Sameel joned us some time later. Spent a little time there till the mosquitoes started attacking us too much, amd A S H V I N, suggested we go for karting. Some phone calls were made and it was decided! Nikki and drpullokaran would join us there, while hydra was stuck with a flooded office! Dropped my car back home, and hitched a ride in zak's possessed qualis. Damn, that thing flies! (Nice ice too....)

By the time we reached the kart track, the others were already there, and nikki and DRpillokaran had joined the pit crew and were repairing the karts!!
Waited for a long time till we could get the track all for ourselves, and had a blast!Zak had the most powerful kart, but there was something wrong with its brakes and kept spinning out at every corner. Finalyy, he got a normal kart! the fastest driver of the day i think was zak's brother!!! Ripper and nikki left by around 9:30, but we stayed on till around 11 and had a great race with A S H V I N's friend and aaha.

Everybody was so busy chatting, driving or simply enjoying the whole scene that we forgot to go click click!

DrPull will get some serious respect the next time he goes to the track. I was there yesterday with my cousins and the mechanics where all ga ga about him. Doc! You've just got some new fans.

When doing my post graduation I used to dabble in anything mechanical and electronic in the college and thankfully the college authorities gave me a free hand at doing what ever I pleased with the college stuff as they were confident I would not render any thing unusable. In the bargain those guys saved lakhs with my half baked knowledge on college equipment when I used to advice on purchases and repairs to the employed technicians. Once my professor commented in a forum that I would not die of hunger if my present profession fails as I could open up a mechanic shop and it would be patronised by many; atleast for the novelty of getting their automobiles treated/diagnosed by an Orthodontist. In truth I do diagnose cars in another forum and also for doctors in two hospitals and a college which I consult as a specialist.

hai guys,
i am also a t-bhp member from cochin. i found this thread just now and was amazed of all the activities you guys do together. it seems as if you guys had a blast. hopefully i can also be a part of it next time. and till when is the karting event open in our airport. will it be there till the end of this month?
