What permits ?
Can you kindly provide details of the permit requirement for the benifit of myself and others here.
Is there any agency that can handle these in advance?
If yes, can you please provide details of the same?

Permits are required to visit the following places:
Pangong Tso, Marsimik La, Tso Moriri, Tso Kar, Khardung La, Nubra Valley (Deskit, Hunder, Panamik), among the popular spots.
These permits are issued by the DC's office at Leh. Applications can be made in the morning and the permits are ready within a few hours. If the DC is in, the job can be done within half an hour too. Sundays are holiday.
There is a nominal fee. All places can be listed on a single permit.

Once obtained, you should make many photocopies of the permit (at least a dozen) as a copy has to be given at each checkpost en route to the above mentioned places.

Most travel agents and hotel owners will get these permits done in advance on payment of a small fee. You'd have to send all the data (name, age, sex, vehicle number etc..) to them and specify the period over which you'll be travelling.

No permits are required for the Leh monasteries circuit or Alchi, Lamayuru, etc..

For the observatory at Hanle, the DC cannot issue the permit. That is a special procedure which in fact can be done from Delhi also. I'm afraid I do not know the details.
Yogesh Sarkar (member here) would be able to tell.

@Anup: Permits will be taken care of. Not an issue. Infact I have done these circuits without permits twice in the past but this time since I am taking along relative strangers I will get the permit thing sorted out in advance once the dates are finalised.

wow it looks as if you are all set to leave. BTW do something about the bag on tank. I doubt if it will hold tight on those bumpy roads. Specially as it is just holding on using magnets, right?

That is tank bag from cramster and lot of people from bcmtouring tried that out, so no issues i guess. Only thing is it might scratch the tank if there is dust in between tank and magnet.

hmmm!!! try putting polythene sheets in between. I will get in touch my biker friends on what was the arrangement they did. Also when you try, do it with polythene of less gauge so that the magnets can work efficiently.

Raj.

NO.. I'll put the soft clothes which we use for glass cleaning. That's the best option.
