Default 13th Dec 09 - Jeep workshop meet at UBS house

Sunday, 13th December 09 we had a small meet at UBS's house. Unlike the previous full on excursion, the idea here was really a meet. The candidates were:

Deval (Evo)
Sheshadri (Ronk)
Souvik (Sgchaudhuri)
Joseph (NOS Power)
Anirban (1100D)
Aniket (Predatorwheelz) and Mrs Predator
and of course, UBS himself.

The day started with a planned theory session on jeeps and off-roading. Then UBS took us into his workshop and explained the technicals of a jeep in detail using a chassis-body taken apart. (I've lost count of how many times I've been here myself, but it was fun watching the faces of first timers)

The last thing on the agenda was giving the newbies a taste of jeeping in the under-construction area in his house. People just drove the Gung-ho and the bawan into and out of the construction rubble. Technically more fun than OTR, but oh, what fun!

The day was generally spent in banter. The group gelled together very well, and as usual UBS' hospitable nature saw to it that none of us wanted to leave.

We did, ultimately, at about 7 in the evening.

Special mention goes to Ronk, who drove down from Mandarmoni that morning to attend the workshop, and sgchaudhuri, to whom goes the credit of these wonderful pics. Some more pics please, Souvik?

The workshop was good in two ways, 1. basic mechanics of an automobile (jeep being the refferal point) were explained by UBS from the grassroots, which did clear a lot of assumptions we had, and 2. offroading inside the premises of UBS's house with whatever is available and being able to explain a bit of offroading to the newbies .

Thanks to UBS sir and predatorwheelz (Aniket) for organising this workshop, will be more than eager to know when is the next one.

Aniket Da, I knew we could expect a 'fatafati' report from you! It was an awesome day, we undoubtedly came back home a little more knowledgeable and the first time experience of driving those jeeps were unforgettable! Hope to go back there soon!
Thanks, Aniketda for organizing the meet and I was glad to meet everybody!
Cheers to Team-BHP Kolkata!

Default Awesome meet

Well..this was one meet that was different, interesting, thoroughly enjoyable and very informative!!! Of course for the veterans it might have been a refresher course, but for s newbies it was a proper learning session. Especially the practicals blew my mind.. never knew what jeeps were really capable of before this .. had read about it, but experiencing it was a completely different experience...
Thanks aniket da for arranging the meet.. my friends were a lil mad at me for cutting short the mandarmoni trip.. but it was worth it!!!
UBS is an outstanding host, and he definately made sure that everyone in the group had something to take back with him!!! (i meant knowledge wise!!)

looking forward to the next OTR meet to figure out what these jeeps are really capable of!

Well the real thanks goes to UBS and only UBS. It was his house, his jeeps and his precious knowledge. All I did was coordinate with all participants. Will be glad to do it again, just tell me you're interested.

I wish i stayed a bit closer to Kolkatta. Looks like you guys had a great time. If and when i come to Kolkatta next, ill make sure i coordinate it with a workshop like this.

Imagine getting Jeeps and Jeeping explained by the legend himself.

Way to go UBSji. Its passionate people like yourself who have kept Jeeping alive in our country.
