Great roads...nice beaches (albeit kinda private), very good sight seeing places.. and it may not require a friday bunk also. (option open though).

Avijit,

I agree with DD.Lets do a mahabalipuram within june itself as gokarna would be much better in september with clean beaches also as the rains would have cleaned out everything

Besides I am all bugged up and want to drive out of bangalore as soon as possible.
If we can do a Mahabalipuram within june then nothing can be better.
That said if we are planning a go-karna trip in JUNE then also I am in.

Its just, july seems too far away

I want to do it in June itself, july is really far for me too.. its just my own feeling that the water of bay of bengal is not so clear like Arabian sea, and Gokarna is really calm, Jog will be on the way like a bonus, and if it rains then nothing like that.Again just my opinion, will go with the popular demand.

@Alter and Asdon:
Either of the places is good. Gokarna has more greenery (after the monsoon) enroute but the road conditions (after shimoga) in rainy season (rather during June-July) would be something I am doubting. Secondly Jog will be in a full swing again after the monsoon. We could also cover Murudeshwar with this trip, if people are interested.

On the otherside, Mahabalipuram is a 6 lane GQ drive. We can enjoy the express way drive (along the sea) to Pondicherry also during this trip.

I have been to Mahabalipuram but not to Gokarna and personally I am more interested to go to Gokarna, only I feel would be better towards end of Monsoon or in Sept.

Guys what say ?

DD if you keep waiting for each and everyone to reply then we will definitely end up going in july only.

Finalize the venue and the date and then see the confirmations pouring in

The route is on NH4 till just before kanchipuram where we need to take a right diversion to Mahabalipuram. somehow google is not taking the route.

BTW i am also open to Gokarna.

place wise check this : Mamalla Beach Resort, Mamallapuram, Mahabalipuram, Fine Hotels, Beach resort, Seaside, Chennai, Tamilnadu. Holiday, Sun, Tropical, Private beach, Gasurina Grove, Lazy getaway, sea breeze, verandah, sea view rooms, hawai chappals, bermuda shorts, rela.
I have stayed here and it was good.

I suppose this is the route you are mentioning. I have travelled by this route tll chengalpet, and its in very good shape.

Dont know about the route from chengalpet till mahabalipuram. Will inquire about the same and update.

But, i feel the serene route that we will be missing is Chennai to Mahabalipuram along the coast (ECR). Wat say ppl?

Ok so, let DD plan for Mahabalipuram, and guys who want to have a go to Gokarna, continue discussion in this thread. As for Gokarna I have been to that place twice, and Inder also got good links so will check on the staying parts and let all know.

DD - start a new one with date, as this seem to be within June.

@Alter - I checked with 2-3 maping websites, the distance is within 566 to 578 km from Electronic City, though I don't stay there any more but still carrying the habit

The distance to mpuram is 355 km and it would take 5 hours. route is attached here.

My mistake : It is NH 46 and not NH 4.
