Driving 500+km in one way in short trip is tiresome so my pick is visit Kodachadri area where you can explore Linganamakki back waters and Kodachadri hills.
Take Bangalore - Hassan - Koppa - teerthahalli - Hosanagara - Kodachadri route and while returning come via Sagara - Shimoga - Bangalore.
Places you can explore:
1. Kuppalli (Poet Kuvempu's birthplace)
2. Kodachaadri (Not sure If top of the hill drive in Jeep facility is available in monsoons. ) I know few places where to stay around.
3. Hasirumakki - sigandoor area - beautifull area and even better just after rains.
4. Water falls trek (2 to 4 km) near Kodachaadri
5. or You can reach beach like Maravathe from Kodachadri via kollur
I suggest plan 3 days trip. You need not drive 500+km in one stretch and scenic route and nice weather.
Devabhag / karwar area is also very good!! But in mansoon few activities are not available there. Around October/November/December thats best place to visit.
While retunring from Karwar try Karwar - 5 km before Ankola take left turn to NH63 - Yellapura - right turn to Mundgood (there is right turn to sirsi too, ask for directions) - Bankapura - NH4 - bangalore. This would be 520km from Karwar. Yellapura - Mundgod - Bankapura nh4 is single lane road but no traffic and not so smooth. but there is no harm in trying that route. There is chance of spotting elephants.
Mine lorries banned in mansoon in nh17 and nh48. So expect less traffic.

I'm fine with any place decided..just that let's ensure we have ample rest , specially the kids get tired during continuous drives.
Waiting for another superb and fun filled adventure.

After a lot of calculations I decided to write it down - I am starting from Bangalore on 15th July, 6pm. Hopefully I will hit Tukur Road by 8:30pm, dinner on the way. Target to reach Tumkur by 10pm, fuel top-up, then no stopping before Jog Falls. I hope to reach Jog by 2 am, if the sky is clear will do some night shots else no stopping. By 4:30am will reach Gokarna but will have to carry on. Reach Margao by 7am. Will stay in Colva beach and see other places, keeping friday, satureday & Sunday for Goa. Will start early on Monday morning may be at 5am, lets see when can I reach Bangalore. This all looks good in paper though . Will post actual driving experience after the drive is finished. Any one wants to join along, WELCOME.
