Default Drive and Meet: Kaas. Report and Pictures from Pg. 27

I was thinking of starting this thread since last couple of weeks.

I am quoting here Ashish..

From city tunnel at Satara, if you go straight avoiding tunnel, you will be on Bamnoli road, if you pass through tunnel, you will be on Thoseghar waterfall road. you can combine Sajjangad fort, Thoseghar waterfall and Chalkewadi wind farm in one go.
Here is a thread on Kaas.. Thanks to the T-Bhpian "Genesis"

http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/travel...u-flowers.html (Kaas (Maharashtra) -The Plateau of flowers)

We need to plan for the trip..

Dates ? Right time for flower blooming ?
Logistics ?
Places to visit ?, Schedule ?
Place to stay ?

Who all will join ? Solo ? Family ?
From Where ? Mumbai, Pune, 12mati, Goa, Bangalore ?

Things to carry ?

etc etc..

Interested people can post here and confirm.

Disclaimer :

I am not trying to organize the drive. I am certainly interested in the drive and experiencing the flower valley and meet some potential friends, spend couple of days away from stressful work and potentially learn a bit or two about the photography. Let us depend on our collective organizing abilities.

Hey star,
thanks for this thread.

1] dates:
The flower bloom time is @ 15th sept to 30 sept +/- 5 days.
This year, 18/19th sept or 25/26th sept are the probable dates for drive as both dates are on sat/sun.
Due to ganesh festival, 18/19th sept are ruled out.
So, 25/26th sept will be suitable.
There will be sunday on 26th sept and thats will be most likely d-day.

2]Logistics ?
Everyone travel in his own vehicle.

3]places to visit.
I suggest, for kaas meet, the itinerary should be like

start point-10:30 am satara-11:45am thoseghar waterfall-1-2pm-lunch at thoseghar-2-3 visit to chalkewadi windmill farm-3-4 travel to kaas lake-4-5:30 kaas lake-return.

If possible, one can add sajjangad fort in this itinerary by early start from satara at 9 am.

You can make this two day itinerary by
day 2
satara-koyna dam-chiplun-lote parshuram-chiplun-derwan-move further to ganapatipule or kolhapur.

4] places to stay.
For those who are coming from mumbai or banglore, satara is the place for stay.

5] Who all will join ? Solo ? Family ?
As it is sunday, i suggest, it should be with family.
All will enjoy the wonders of nature.
Solo drivers can join, no problem.

6]From Where ? Mumbai, Pune, 12mati, Goa, Bangalore ?

First confirmation from me.
I will drive with my family.

7]Things to carry ?
Raincoat/umbrella must, good shoes must, other things as per your requirement.

''Turboholic'' is the key person for this drive meet.

Second confirmation from me.
Yes, I'm planning on 4 weekends to Kaas. Don't want to see remnants like last time.
Third confirmation from Khoj. I'm putting his name because, I know he WILL make it at any Kaast (cost).

Things to carry? I'm not carrying an umbrella or a raincoat. I'll be coming with my family on sept 24th/ 25th. Other weekends I intend to do this mostly alone. Will be good for a quiet afternoon of photography.

AP saab, I don't want to cram too many in the schedule as my daughter will go berseck. So I will work on what all can be done with Kaas in that weekend.

Consider me as the third confirmation. I would be with family. Don't want to miss it.
Are we planning on a one day schedule or a weekend i.e. two day schedule.

Do we have food joints at Thoseghar falls or do we need to carry food too?

For the Bangy boys who want to join the drive
---------------------------------------------

I suggest departure from Bangalore on Friday (24th Sept) afternoon say 3 PM

Assemble at Tumkur outskirts or any meet point between Dobaspet & Tumkur and then drive in a convoy towards Satara

Dinner on the way, options are Rane bennur, Hubli, Balgaum

Drive till Satara and then check into the hotel some time around mid night.

25th and 26th Sept forenoon : site seeing, Meeting other BHPians from Mumbai, Pune, Baramati, Goa etc.

26th Afternoon : departure from Satara and reach Bangalore by midnight.

Note for guys from Maharastra : Can the meet be scheduled for Saturday as Sunday people from Bangalore might want to return by afternoon.

I have no problem with Saturday or Sunday.

There are couple of dhaaba at thoseghar.
Turboholic has contacts with the owner of that food joint.
During last meet at big wheels, Turboholic assured me and Mx6 about the food at Thoseghar.

Please remember that thoseghar, chalkewadi and kaas lake are at remote place where one can not find any modern/touristy facilities.

I will join in too (unless something unforeseen happens during that exact week-end). I missed the full bloom last time, saw some but I am told it was only the tip of the iceberg.

My better half was not with me that time so I'm sure she will join this time as she has long wanted to go there (and Valley of Flowers!). Perhaps even a like-minded friend will join in (if others don't mind - by like minded - as in who has the travel bug - not the car/bike bug).

Swell plan Starvegabond! We'll definitely meet up all on Saturday so that you guys can plan a return. Try converting your weekend to a long weekend.
I shall keep this posted with trips earlier to Satara! Planning a trip on 11th / 12th sept to start with!

AP saab. My daughter loves open meadows and flowers. She loves places where she can be unleashed!

Me too, I am fine with the whole weekend i.e. Saturday or Sunday or both the days.

Good to know about the Dhabas. Atleast we wont have to worry about food there.

Hi everyone. Consider me in for this meet tentatively.

@ f1fan: I did a quick visit to Thoseghar yesterday after my work in Satara. We really need to enquire about food available at that place. I guess one need to inform in advance to whatever couple of joints are available there. I came back to satara as i did not get anything there and also I was doubtful about the quality of food they provide.

Right observations.

As season is not started yet, the food joints are still not prepared for the season.

As earlier mentioned, that is remote place and we have to manage with whatever is available there.

Turboholic may assist us for food.

Default Great Guns!

12 posts in one-and-a-half hours!!

Somebody may take objection and start 'Save Kaas' movement or something (joking of course)

Count me in. Will be on bike. If possible, will try to rope in one more friend.

A couple of things to add, if I may.

Finish off breakfast by 8AM or so, so that we can reach straight for Kaas. Seeing the flowers and the lake is going to take some time - especially if people want to stop shoot pictures. So set deadline (flexible to an extent) for the points.

Come back to Satara Boghda (tunnel) (say by 12.30 ~ 1.30). If lunch can be arranged enroute to Tosegar, then there will enough time to spare at Tosegar.

People wanting to return to Bangalore the same day, can skip Tosegar if their schedule doesn't permit.

Return from Tosegar by 5.30~6.00.

StarV, drive from Tumkur to Satara at a stretch may be tough. Can you contact paragsachania? He has given good info on the route.. including places to stay and eat. Personally, I feel you should reach Belgaum by 10 PM and halt there. Next day (25th), visit Kolhapur and a couple of places nearby, so as to reach Satara by night.

Count me in frm Bangy. Regarding my car, I can get it if it is free and someone also jumps in. I am not driving solo. Else, I am very much ready to tag along and share the fuel bill also.
