Guys.
It's approx 525 - 530 KM

Bangy to Coimbatore - Roads are really good with 4 lane stretch.
Cross Walayar Check post and you are in for a treat. Two lane stretch from Walayar Check post till Palakad. Roads are fine but be careful tackling Private bus. They are notorious when it comes to driving.
From Palakad to Thrissur, you have 4 lane stretch, but please remember this isnt complete. So dont stretch your legs during this stretch, there are many deviations from Palakad to Chalakudy.
Also watch out for some potholes.
From Chalakudy to Athrimpally, you have some the best scenic roads. Excellent roads here.

You can drop in to Cochin during the weekend. Expect some bad traffic and really bad roads in Cochin.

Let me know for how many days you guys have this trip planned. I shall let you know some place to hangout.

Not hijacking the thread but today's Hindu carried the news that waterfalls around Karnataka are in full flow. The picture was of Gokak falls and man there was some volume of water there. So it might be a good time to visit for guys who are planning to visit areas near belgaum.

If planning to a stay around Athirappilly falls, you might want to check out R i v e r o k V i l l a s -A Family Resort Hotel, Kerala, India or Home Page - Rainforest Boutique Resort, Athirapally, Chalakudy, Kerala, the former being light on wallet.

Have a safe and great drive guys!
Thanks, looks tempting.

Yes, Even we are thinking to leave at 5am as the distance is around 500kms.

@hvkumar - Thanks a lot for the info.
When travelogue guru has fixed the route for us then this should be the route.

Bangalore to Arthirapalli is via Salem (NH7) till Avinashi (NH47). Turn off at Avinashi, and go via Tiruppur and Palladam to Pollachi. From Pollachi, go via Valparai to Athirapalli.
You can return the other way. Athirapalli-Chalakudy-Trissur-Palakkad-Coimbatore-Salem.

@vasanthn21 - Hope your question is answered. Atleast 90% of roads condition should be pretty good.

Looks interesting to me. But I think its a bit too far at about 1000kms for just two days. There will also be some ghat driving involved in the onward trip which may be tiring.

Hey, thanks Rajeev for pointing me here. Very tempting and would love to join but considering the distance of 500+ I'm bit apprehensive. Let's hope I can made up my mind by that time

Yeah, the query about the road condition is answered.

I have discussed with wifey regarding this, and have managed to get a "yes" for now. But the status is still "tentative".

Have you finalized on where to stay?

Another (may be silly) query - can we get into the water at the falls? or is it a "for your eyes only" place?

Do we have an itinerary in place based on the suggestions received?

During monsoon there may be restrictions on going near the falls. Swimming is strictly banned. There are umpteen cases of people caught in water drowning due to sudden surge in water.

But, if you book as a group, you might get a discount!

So, you are saying we might not get to swim. But, are there pockets, where we can be submerged in water till waist level and play for some time, if not swim? or are there only deep areas and no shallow areas?

I looked at the pics in the link provided by you raj, and the place seems cool... and sure we can play in water... I do not know swimming anyway!

Well, 90% case of drowning happens due to two factors, influence of liquor and/or not knowing swimming. I think there should be some designated safe areas where we can get our feet wet, at least!.

Sorry for the OT post, but most cases of drowning happen when untrained swimmers jump in to save someone from drowning.
