Fuel Gauge Problem - Contessa & Esteem - Team-BHP

Hi,

I've been having a problem with my fuel guage for a long time now.

The photo here shows the gauge when the tank is full.

I have checked the float and the guage for any problems, but all seems OK.

Can anyone help solve this please.

Welcome to the club. My car's fuel guage worked fine for a long time. Now the needle just dosen't move up. I checked the fuse, the float, etc. and again, like your case, it seems to be fine. I'm taking it to the garage this week. Let's see what happens.

I use my odometer to know when to fill fuel.

Hi Aditya,

The Temperature gauge and the Fuel gauge are connected via the same supply line. There is a sort of thermal relay to limit the supply going to the Fuel gauge, so the Fuel gauge does not get pure DC, but pulsating DC.

If your temperature meter is working then supply is not a problem, it could just be a matter of cleaning the contacts of the bimetallic strip feeding the fuel gauge.

Do let me know what the findings are... It will at least give me a pointer as to what I have missed checking.

BTW which garage do you go to ?
I take it to National Garage at Milan Subway, Santacruz. Have not asked them about this fault as yet though...

Well, my meter is not totally dead, so as soon as it drops to quarter tank, I top it up...

And even at the quarter mark, the tank still holds about 20 litres of fuel!!!

It dosent move at all. It all started after i installed my new central locking . it had a ignition cutoff function which completly killed my battery

as i did not know how to bypass it. The speedo meter is working fine but the temprature guage is not working as well, at times i see it climbing up but it stays below normal. I think its a bad fuse could you tell me how to check and which could be that fuse?????

Well i am also facing problem with my fuel gauge Type 1 esteem.
I had tried to repair the float winding, it worked fine for an year but again its gone bad.
Mechanic said to replace the kit i.e. Fuel pump and gauge float. Rs 6k new isnt it killing, dont we get the fuel gauge only?

Needles are working fine the problem rests at the tank end. What to do?
