Default New Tata Manza pulling to the left

Hi,

Creating this new thread on behalf of one of my friends who unfortunately could not get TBHP membership despite several attempts. He however needs expert advice from TBHP members as he is really getting hyper now with this continuing problem & have postponed all the car accessories since he might return the car to Tata motors if this is not sorted out soon.

Quote:

Here is the youtube video

--------------------------------------------------
I went for the alignment, spoke to the technician over there & showed him the video, he smiled & said this is minor problem but will need some extra time & has asked me to come tomorrow afternoon during his lunch hour so he can devote extra time & he said confidently that this is going to be perfect.

His smile caught my attention & I asked him the reason of this typical smile to which he said you are not the 1st Manza owner complaining about this problem, he said that you have done a great job by shooting a video which clearly shows the problem.

Yesterday I posted the video on Tata Manza Facebook wall & surprisingly have received many emails from other Manza owners facing similar issues via Facebook.

Here are the links.
https://www.facebook.com/IndigoManza

direct link to the Facebook wall post
https://www.facebook.com/IndigoManza...71072462952929

I just cant believe Tata motors can be so careless to pass on misaligned cars & the dealer who is suppose to do the PDI & hand over a perfect car passes on the same to customers & then service advisers just say the usual thing, "Sir we have done the job", and the problem remains as it is for the car owners.

Just need to wait for next few hours till I get the alignment checked.

^^
AutoIndian - I am surprised to hear that many Manza owners are reporting this problem on facebook. I think, other than your friend, none of the Manza forum members have reported this. I can't see the youtube video or the facebook links as these are blocked in my office.

My manza has done 32k km and I surely don't have this issue in my car. Tyre wear in my car is also normal. Not sure if this was checked, since the problem is of left pulling, can it be due to the road camber? Many Indian roads are tapered to the left to so that the water flows away from the road. That tapering if significant, leads to left pulling. Quick test will be drive in wrong direction for a minute on the same road where left pulling is observed and see if now the car pulls to the right. Is so, then it's road problem not car. Driving in wrong direction is not recommended though but can be done in early morning hours to only check and that too for small distance.

Also, was the left pulling also observed when driving on a plain road (i.e. w/o tapering), is it observed in all driving conditions like different speeds etc?

If I remember correctly, you posted on Manza test drive thread, your friend drove many Manza cars and all had this issue. Hence, I am thinking this may not be a real issue as I have not heard of it as a generic problem, not at least at T-BHP.

I am not suggesting that there is no problem, just trying to understand if it's a Manza specific issue or the roads in areas your friend drives.

Authorized service centers can sometimes be very careless about wheel alignment. I have noticed that wheel alignment jobs are assigned to people who have just joined in as trainees - they look 18 or 20 years old.

Ask your friend to take the car to any independent wheel alignment/balancing shop.

Your friend's car is undriveable. If he doesn't sort out the issue soon, he will destroy the front tyres in another 3000 kms.

This seems to be a very recent issue. Please do have a look at the youtube video (may be at your home). It is very surprising that the car drifts to its merry at all speeds & gear combiations.

Tapering of roads may lead to left pulling. However he has tried driving on the wrong side of the road & experienced the same phenomenon. So apparently this does not seem to be a road problem.

Could it be that the particular batch of Manzas have this issue? Would a deformed chassis lead to this kind of left pulling. I would suggest him to carry out another test. May be he can take one of his friend's car & drive exactly on the same road under similar conditions

Yes, that is what he is going to do today. During lunch time, he is going for alignmenmt checking by a bridgestone tyre shoppe. Hopefully he gets it sorted out at this shoppe.

Not surprising, but a problem definitely. Similar problem in my Spark which is in the service centre now to get that and other issues resolved. Alignment can be disturbed by a number of factors, including potholes. Your friend's car does seem to be an extreme case, though. Do you know (or can ask) if there were any long trips taken recently where he may have gone over some rough roads or even some encounters with potholes in the city itself?

I've been trawling the Manza threads for a long time, and haven't seen any mention of persistent or inherent alignment issues. Haven't seen Manzas with unevenly worn tyres either. Don't think it is a production issue, just poor A.S.S.

His car is a brand new one & it is not just this one, but the other Manzas that he test drove at the dealer seemed to have this peculiar problem.

My bad.

Seems to be a dealership problem then. They're probably not servicing the TD vehicles properly, and not getting the PDI done to save a few bucks and time. I think an alignment job done at a specialist should solve the problem.

Experts please shed light on the issue. I have heard of cars pulling left [or right] due to alignment problems but by this much? What are the other possible causes for this? Bent chassis, damaged suspension? Pretty shocked to see this. Being new to driving, if someone gave a car that handles like this, I would have crashed it is no time.

Please get the brakes checked first, a very common cause of drifting/pulling. Most probably the issue lies with wrong adjusted brakes.

And if possible get it checked at some other service center, or a reputed independent workshop. Till date I have never found any car to be bad. They are all manufactured good, it is the authorized service center that kills them.

Assuming the car is new and nothing's bad been done to it by owner or dealer, this is very bad QC from TATA. This company are aspiring to go global but if they can't sort out such small issues how the hell will they survive in more mature global markets? Downright disgusting, IMO.

Relax mate!!..

1st off, A.S.S alignment is just crap!.. When I had my suspension overhaueld, and they gave the car to me without aligning, and even without mentioned they did not. Yes, they charged me.

Get it properly aligned from some good place outside.

Talk to the person over there, and discuss the reading. Take a print out of the readings and post it here. There are enough experts to point out the exact problem.

This is just an alignment issue and since report is only from one dealer I think it is an issue with Alignment values being used by A.S.S rather then issue from factory.

Many times Alignment shops have old model values in their computers which does not go well with new model . It Happend with my safari once when Sai Iyenger did alignment as per TCIC whereas 2.2 VTT have different toe value and I observed pulling towards one side.

Make sure that alignment centre use values for Manza and not for Indigo , Vista or any other similar model

Can some Manza owner post a printout of alignment here ?

Buddy this is definitely a problem of misalignment. Get this checked from a reputed shop and not the dealer. The dealerships have no clue about alignment. Also get your brakes checked as has been suggested.

I was thinking of saying that the roads generally taper towards left to aid the drainage of water. But then I saw the video. Its definitely not that. Suggest that you take the car to some independent reputed alignment center.

Also once its done drive the car over different stretches of the road to be extra sure.

The GM is talking BS. This is a clear case of improper WA. A few queries:-

1. How many kilometers done?
2. Any sign of tire wear? If yes, kind of wear.
3. Any abnormal Return-ability / Steering effort (feel at low speeds on both sides).

Also if possible, post the current WA values of the car. Let us know.
