Default Toyota Corolla Altis Weird Problem

My friend owns a Toyota corolla altis petrol 1.8GL which has a weird problem. The multi information display on the dashboard which usually displays the amount of petrol and the distance which it can travel with the amount of petrol in the tank seems to be erratic.
The Distance range never updates on filling petrol for Rs.500. whereas on filling petrol for 1000 bucks it updates itself automatically. so each time the car has to be filled up for 1000 buck to gauge the range.
The range also gradually decreases and comes to 0 even though there is good amount of fuel present in the tank.
The car was taken to the Authorized service center but Service Adviser and the Mechanic has no clue about it.

Have anyone of the toyota corolla owners here experienced the same problem?. is there any solution for it?

cheers geeash

Try resetting the MID everytime you fill up. Reset means when the screen shows the range and you want it updated. Keep the reset button pressed for 5-6 secs till the average shows 0.0kmpl.

The trip meter is reset using the other reset button. There is another reset button which resets the avg. kmpl, travel time and inst. kmpl. When you reset that the range gets updated as well.

Bumping up an Old thread
I have a new Gen Altis and I seem to face the same issue albeit it shows quarter tank more than the actual fuel present.
Any solutions or troubleshooting?

Get the float mechanism in the fuel tank.

Yup, got it checked.
It's fine
The fault is with the gauge
Opened it myself and fixed it.
Well almost not there's half a centimetre error on both sides of the Gauge.
