As a safety feature, video playback on the XUV stops once the car sets into motion.

Can this be changed? Any way around this 'safety' feature?

Yes. But it can't be done at the service centre . It can be done at a professional audio installer . But the drawback is that you won't be able to see info while changing the acc mode( like temp change , circulation mode etc ) while watching the videos . I don't have the proof for it as i only heard about it from a professional audio installer .It's a difficult job as tracing that particular wire from the silver box takes lot of time . And you will lose warranty.

Hi just completed 570kms in my new xuv. Few of the issues/annoyances I've observed are:

1) Battery was found to be defective in week 2 of owning the car. It used to refuse to start. Currently running it with standby battery. Working fine so far.

2) The ODO/Trip display always shows ODO by default. Is there a way to change this to retain Trip A or Trip B whatever I've pressed/selected last?

3) I was unable to find any way to change the radio preset station using the steering controls. Touching the screen forces me to look away from the road

4) Annoyance: Bluetooth calling requires me to touch the contact twice. Once to select it, after which a "> CALL" text appears to the right side and then touch the "> CALL" to actually initiate the call. IMO, all this should be controllable via steering controls. A 5-way navipad would have done the trick.

5) Annoyance: Passenger side seatbelt buckle keeps banging against the B pillar which is quite annoying. Should have been some kind of stopper or hook to hang the seatbelt when not in use or should have been tight enough not to do "kat kat kat.."

6) I've hardly used the windshield washer 3 or 4 times and the tank is empty. Filled up about a liter of water yesterday in it and today there is no spray coming out of it. Also, I was asked to fill water in that every 15 days. Why?? Does it evaporate on it's own? Or does the heat of the engine play some role in this?

7) When the doors are open, only the light in the center comes on, is there a way to have the light above the rear view mirror (driver's cabin) also come on upon door opening?

1. Battery is the one of the most important item. Your car can the best but it will never start without a healthy battery. So take good care of it.
2. On the same panel right side there is a small switch.

Please get the battery changed.

Unfortunately that's the way it is. Designers at M&M/Nippon in their infinite wisdom, designed the infotainment system to be useless.

Yes, poor interface design.

True. The seat belts on the middle bench have clips for securing them. But not the passenger seat.

This is a problem. The front windshield washer container is of 2 litres capacity. Unless you were playing Holi with the car, there is no way you would have sprayed a litre of water in a day. Get it checked please. Are you sure, its a water issue? May be there is water in the reservoir, but the pump is faulty or the nozzles are choked.

Nope.

Sorry for the bunch of 'No's and 'nope's. You just have to live with some of these annoyances.

Few inputs from my end

Lodge a complaint with the Battery OEM and get a replacement. I got mine replaced when one of the cells of the battery stopped functioning after 8 months

2) The ODO/Trip display always shows ODO by default. Is there a way to change this to retain Trip A or Trip B whatever I've pressed/selected last?

Looks like a SW issue ideally it should show the last function suggested

5) Annoyance: Passenger side seatbelt buckle keeps banging against the B pillar which is quite annoying. Should have been some kind of stopper or hook to hang the seatbelt when not in use or should have been tight enough not to do "kat kat kat.."

Nothing much can be done about this, I have put a piece of double tape with one side of the tape still sealed, now the sound is not there

Check for any leakage from the pipes / bottle, evaporation seems unlikely

DIY - remove the power going to the other light and take power from the center light for it. Both will work together. This would however need you to open the roof lining for the wiring

So, on what basis can M&M deny electrical warranty on HID installation? You just need to be logical and firm with them.

so If something goes wrong they might cite this just to escape warranty. I am not really sure about it and don't want to take that risk. and I am keeping my fingers crossed. Someone might just try to escalate it further up in M&M to clear it. I can try with Area manager.
Avimal has answered exactly my words.

Think of it that if Ballast has some wild issue and does some damages to the electricals of the car, Mahindra will never honor warranty as it's not the part they supplied. The Service Manager in fact gave me a real life example of someone who bought a used XUV in Mumbai. Under heavy downpour, there was some issue or fire in the headlight and it was found that the earlier owner had installed HID with a Ballast and the Ballast caused the issue (as per him the damage was huge and they helped the customer in insurance claim). Don't know if there is a possibility of ballast acting weird.

Utter Rubbish from the service guy! Next time please ask him how does a ballast functions. Its a DC to AC converter with a current limiter. And the striker circuit integrated with the ballast boosts up the voltage to create the arc, its not boosting the current, hence ruling out the chance of overheating and insulation failure and subsequently fire.If you install the HID's with their own harness, how can it possibly harm the electricals of a car, other than sucking the battery dry. I have Morimotos running for the last one and half years, no issues ( I know at least 15 others doing the same, since it was a group buy). And yes M&M does honor the warranty inspite of having HIDs installed, I, for one,got my freaking engine replaced and didn't pay a single penny. Moreover the power drawn by HID's are way less as suggested by SDP, hence its safer if you talk about heating. Yes what they won't honor is if someone plays around with the stock harness/wiring, and thats acceptable. Our friend Shreyas Kaushik has got written consent from M&M on using of HID's with their own harness, please get in touch with him

Does this mean that HID's are installed in his car without ballast but with Mahindra's stock harness (instead of a separate aftermarket ballast)?

NO. We bought the morimotos with Harness, ballast et all, know as 'kit'. We didn't touch the OE wiring. It's tad costlier than the usual chinese ones that you get in the market. But worth every penny. Just that don't tamper with the OE wiring, and nobody can touch you. .

It's just that I'm OEM-stickler and quite paranoid over warranty. I don't want to leave it subjective and left to interpretation of individuals at MASS. Pulled some strings, some old relationships and the solution is if HID vendor goes to MASS and installs HID there under the supervision of MASS ensuring that there is no wire cutting or splicing, it's good to go. THe approach helps me too as even I don't want any cutting or splicing. One of the vendors backed out from this straightaway citing some excuses . Let me see if I can get another good vendor in Mumbai who is ready to do it this way.

Few others:
1) The "rod" that goes from the steering wheel always fouls with my left foot when I'm pressing the clutch. Why wouldn't they have covered that?!

2) There is a screw that is visible if you turn the steering wheel. It is not even in the same color as the black plastic. In a 17 lac car, this glaring omission is simply not acceptable.

Guys the front right tyre of my Xuv is getting heated a bit as compared to the other tyres (other tyres are pretty normal in temp) . What might be the issue? Mine is Aug'14 W6 done 6k.

Is it just the tire? If yes, then check air pressure. Low air pressure increases rolling resistance and hence friction, which increase tire temperature.
If it is the rim itself, then check if its free to rotate by jacking up the car. Rubbing brake pads or bad bearing can generate and radiate heat to the rims/ alloys.
