I faced the same issue an year back, when the SA read the error codes it is showing some error with respect to SAS(Steering Alignment Sensor).
SA may just erase the error code but it may not solve the issue, steering alignment and calibration has to be done.
SA can do by connecting their diagnostic laptop.

some useful information about this issue.

If ABS indicator also glowing, then it is because of the sensor cable touching the wheel.

Guys, I noticed the following turbo noise when accelerating in 2nd gear. The sound of the turbo is at times like how a rod spins around a oval cylinder instead of a circular cylinder, giving it a non-uniform sound. Though it is not there always, have noticed it right from the initial days of 2.5 yrs of ownership. Earlier I used to hear this sound only when driving after a period of prolonged parking. And I assumed it was more with the turbo needing to warm up. Though I religiously follow the idling practice both while starting and stopping the car, this uneven spinning noise used to be heard at times. On hearing this noise, I dont push the car further in 2nd gear and shift to 3rd, post which everything would be smooth.

But recently, I faced this at times when slowing down the car and requiring to accelerate in 2nd gear. Again not always, maybe 1-2 in 10 times. And that too after driving for some good number of kms, hence turbo warming is no more in picture. As such I dint notice any drop in power or any other issues so far. So any one else hear such a uneven turbo spinning noise. Should I get the turbo checked. Again as it is very difficult to recreate, not sure how to put it across to the ASS.

I faced this issue due to a rat attack. You can ask the ASS to check the error codes and reset it. If it still comes up pls ask them to check the wiring. You never know....

Pls find my inputs below

Few things I'm a little unhappy about
1) I feel water spray on the front wipers is powerful enough (I owners a Honda City 2008 and a Hyundai Santro XP 2002 before this). Service center says this is good.
-- I believe you are saying its not powerful enough...Been the case right from start. You can ask the guys to adjust the nozzle to get the best coverage as per your liking.

2) Occassionally, moving from Neutral to 1st gear becomes a herculean task. At a traffic signal, the only option at such moments is to start in 2nd and move on. As occassional as once or twice a month, but a nuisance indeed.
-- Faced this issue during my initial days of ownership. Got it sorted out after 1st service. Never ever faced it post that.

3) Where do other XUVians keep coins / toll tickets? I dont see any good place to keep coins or toll tickets. Door doesnt have a coin tray, bottle/cup holders between gear and chill box have holes that coins may fall through, keeping coins in the top compartment of the chill box may be slightly painful.
-- For parking tickets I use the a ticket holder fixed to the sun visor. Search for Auto Vehicle Sun Visor Sunglasses Eyeglasses Glasses Ticket Holder Clip. I got a cheap option long back in ebay, but cant find it now.
-- For toll tickets during long drives, I put in the top compartment above the infotainment
-- For coins I have kept a small ice cream cup similar to baskin robbins. Keep it inside the cup holder. Being a dark brown shade cup its gels well with the interiors. Also makes it easier to take the coins as I can take out the cup and search for the right coin in it.

4) Driver seat is already showing signs of losing original color (wear and tear). When I asked Service Center if we could get seat covers, they said using seat covers may impact functioning of the air bags. I cant correlate the two.
-- Cant say much here as I have the black leather option and so far its OK.

Cheers,
kk

There is a airbag unit located on the seat back of the driver and front passenger seat. You will find a label indicating the same on the edge of the seat fabric/leather stitching, that aligns with the B pillar. Please do not cover the seat with a partial or full seat cover. An airbag popping inside a seat cover will be disastrous and a danger to the passenger.

Sorry, I doubt that!
As per my understanding, the reason for that tag being there on the seat is that an additional seat-cover would reduce the gap between the seat and the B-pillar (where the side-curtain airbag is located) and obstruct the airbag from opening correctly.

Are you saying there isn't a side air bag? This is usually located on the seat back.

On checking Mahindra's website, they do talk about Side and Curtain Air bags that are available on W8 and above. Images illustrating deployment of the side air bag does suggest it is located on the seat back and not the B pillar.

Oops! I stand corrected.
Thanks Ravi sir for the correction!
I always thought that the side and curtain airbags are the same.

Did the issue come back after restarting also? i dont think its anything to do with the cruise control. Dont worry its should be a minor thing to resolve. Not sure if it helps, but a colleague of mine who got a W8 Xclusive edition in Jan had a clutch cylinder failure recently and clutch was stuck. Certainly some quality control issues.

On a lighter note I am curious how did you manage to maintain cruise control for 15 mins without braking given our road and traffic conditions?

Few more inputs on this one since I recently read through the user manual . the Curtain airbags are protecting both front and middle row passenger and they deploy more at the torso level of the passengers, basically covering the glass area and beyond. The side airbags are mainly for the front driver and co-passenger only and they protect the lower body like legs etc. There are specific pictures in the user manual showing the deployment areas.

On a side note this lead to another query in my mind about curtain airbags. Are there 2 physically different airbags present both on the A and B pillars which deploy together?

Mods - Please club the posts, I was out of editable time range

Yes supertinu the issue came even after restarting I had been to the service center today and as fellow bhpian's mentioned the diagnostic laptop showed an error code on the Steering Alignment sensor. I will be visiting the service center again on Saturday to get it fixed.

It was on the Nelamangala - Hassan stretch, the traffic was sparse and I was able to do constant speeds with cruise control which also helped to increase my average fuel efficiency.

Faced first couple of niggles today after 3 months and close to 6.5k kms.

1)While driving, suddenly the music, playing via bluetooth from an android phone, went off.No boom sound though.Re ignition, pairing off pairing on the phone didn't help/Finally found out that the volume got muted on its own in phone.Weird.
.This may be related to the android update though.

2)Major one-While on road ,driving in first gear, the clutch pedal wouldn't come out fully.Panic set in as it was in choc 'a block office hours traffic and the car wouldn't move forward.Had to put on hazard lights and wave sheepishly to angry drivers and blaring horns.Pulled out the pedal by hand and drove straight to service center. The issue couldn't be reproduced.Any help as to the cause or further action? Other than this, i am simply loving it.Gem of a car.

Lots of people have faced this. Clutch pedal goes down and doesn't come up.
This is serious and would lead to eventual clutch failure. Mostly an issue with the clutch slave cylinder (not sure whether its the master or the slave cylinder which is problematic).

Such issues are difficult to reproduce. Take a hard line with the service center and the customer-care so that they investigate it thoroughly and fix it.

This is the exact same issue that my friend with W8 Xclusive edition faced. Eventual root cause was leakage in the cylinder. Not sure whether it was master or slave.

My W8(2014) is just out from 20K service and i am observing some weired behaviour of infotainment system.
Even though the Infotainment system is on Mute, suddenly without any action it is getting unmute. i am sure that the Mute button on steering is not touched.
Anyone noticed this earlier.

I think I have found out what's contributing to the rattling behind the dash. For me it was as if some thing was dangling in the glove box. I have cleaned the glove box at least 10 times looking for a small bold/screw
Finally Its the sunglasses in the sunglasses holder .
Since I use both power glasses and a power sunglasses after a careful observation (read hearing) I found that sound is more prominent in the evening when the sunglasses are in the holder. The sunglasses are heavier than my rim less titanium one.
I have tried putting the sunglasses in my pocket couple of times on the same route and surprisingly the rattle disappears .

Though there is a felt cloth lining in the bottom part of the holder top is a plain plastic. May be a thin sponge there would keep the goggles tight and secure . Not sure if its the same issue for all of us, please check if works for you.
