thanks guys.
The check list is toooooooooo long. I may not even understand all the items. I will first check against the niggles list, and then paint job, tyres and odometer.

Regarding W6 vs W8 - there is ready stock of W8 with one distributor. Sales guy is saying June manufacturing. For W6 I need to wait. If I have to go for waiting, then I will definitely go for W6.

To keep things simple - try this

Check whether ODO is working or not. Ensure the kms keep increasing as you drive. this will ensure ODO is NOT disconnected. Secondly just observe the external body for signs of scratches / dents / repaints etc. Thirdly just ensure all electronics are working.

If you get a W8 readily available and you need a vehicle right way, go ahead and pick it up. I think if you book a W6 now, it should take you 16-20 weeks(4 Months).

Do any of you guys know how to adjust the low beam from the engine bay. I took the vehicle for a minor check up yesterday where I asked them to raise the Low beam a little bit. Looks like it has got raised a lot so that it puts a black patch at the start of the throw.. meaning the it lights a little far from the car and the area immediately in front of the car is marginally dark. However fog lights come for help there..

so just wanted to know how to do this in the DIY mode.. so that we can adjust it to our satisfaction..

Pls post a pic of the screw/or some mechanism to be fiddled with in the headlight cluster..

My right indicator has conked off again. It works for a while and then gives up.

This was supposed to have been rectified last week. Now i have to take the pain of driving all the way to whitefield to get it done.

Some one is gonna have a bad day that day

I too have observed this batch patch at the start of the throw in my XUV. I was under the impression that it was one among the myriad features of the Cheetah :-) . Thanks for bringing this up. I will ask the RM to look into it during the next visit to the service center.

I had this issue. M&M promptly replaced the entire headlight assembly.. It is a known issue to the service folks.. Insist on getting both side's headlight assembly replaced instead of one (There will be color difference if you dont do it..)

Sathya,
Yea, I asked them to do the same in front of me & saw the position of the screw. Will try to take a picture of the same location & post it here.
Was fairly easy, must say.
Meanwhile, you can try to do a little bit from inside the cabin. The vertical rollbar on the right side (near to diesel tank open button). If you want to lower the beam - please try to go to position that's numbered 3 against it. 3 is the lowest beam possible that can be done from inside.
0 is the highest in terms of beam.

Manoj, thanks for picture.
When you mention the dark-traingle, are you talking about the area circled in red?

On a seperate note, I have not understood why the light has that clipped part shown by blue line? I have observed the same characteristic in my XUV as well.

SDP,

Im talking about the area beyond the blue line. Thats the dark triangle formed. It is not visible in high beam though.

To add, the photo was taken under diary circle, and the light was pointed towards slight elevation. On a normal even road, the dark portion is menacing. Especially when one is driving along side the divider, and when those stones are left over on the road, you tend to not see them due to the lack of light.

Isn't it surprising that a car with so many issues is still going great guns. In any other country a lot of them would have been recalled. The best that I have heard is XUV 500's brakes fail or do not work up to the expectation. One of my close relative had a near fatal experience thanks to it. I wish someone at Mahindra is doing something about it.

Hey, thanks for clarifying. I believe I have the same problem. Would take a pic for sharing and would also try to debug.

Folks, I have this exact issue. I checked in atleast 10 other vehicles - all of them have the same issue. I dont know if its by design (or) yet another niggle.

I have herd of that too, in my own organization, someone bought an XUV and on highway the brakes almost failed on highway speeds. Havent yet spoken to the actual owner yet. Others close to him tell me that once that happened he limped back to Mysore and then had to spend the entire day in there to get it rectified.

Won't it be fun if Richard Hammond, Jeremy Clarkson and James May popped over and did a test drive and review of the XUV?
Im sure it would be a hatchet job but perhaps thats what is needed to make our manufacturers do a better job of quality and diligence!
I mean, having the brakes fail on a 16 lac vehicle is criminal!

I have also heard that the Export Quality XUV uses far better steel and has greater double reinforcement especially around the columns and so on to actually be safer than the India spec one. This is probably why it scored 4 stars on the ANCAP though there were comments about structural rigidity anyway!

Why do they short change their own countrymen with sub standard rubbish while giving special treatment to Phoren markets?
Till the government steps in and makes safety mandatory, these manufacturers will always take short cuts for local sales.
