You took the technician for a 35KMs ride? That's amazing.
The mileage numbers are worrying though. What was the technician's diagnosis for the low fuel-efficiency?

Edit: 35kms ride would have consumed 2-3 liters of diesel. Since you are not using the auto-cutoff method and the top-up is just 2-3 liters, the calculation has a huge margin of error.

Cut is like very visual once you open the assembly. I really cant explain but hopefully someone might have a pic. Or next time i goto the service center I will make sure i will click a pic.

LOL @ 35m ride! Actually i took him along cause i didn't want to leave any loose ends like, sir you were speeding, or shifting gears at wrong speed etc. Yeah i agree that in 2-3 its difficult to gauge but at least it gives a fair idea as digital states 16.2 and actual is 12.8 which is like a 3.4 difference!

And the techinician says that 12.8 is proper milage for the car. I am kinda surprised cause when the car was some 4k kms old i had driven it Mum-Pune-Mum and had got a mileage of 15.6 (Full tank to full tank method)

I checked what maximum mileage I can get on Yamuna expressway. I got 17.2 km/l. The car was not driven above 100km/h during this test. The millage are 100% accurate because it was calculated by torque app using OBD input.

I know its too early to comment, just maybe M&M took care of the thing before the manufacturing of my car which happens to be August.

OT : Does W6 come without those wheel caps, as standard fitment, or have I been duped?

Even for me the brake grinding issue is not a major trouble now.
It was audible during the initial few weeks.
It's more or less gone now. I hear a very feeble grind under really hard braking these days. That's it.

My car is a Jan 2012 production. I've not replaced brake pads yet.

W6 comes with plastic Wheel caps for all four wheels. They come in a separate box and installed during PDI. Do check my XUV photos uploaded in the forum for reference.

After 2000kms in the last 25 days, came across the following niggles with my July'12 manufactured W8

- Brake grinding noise (awaiting the new brake pads)
- Rear left passenger door not opening from outside (sorted out at service centre)
- There is a kata-kata-kata noise from the engine when accelerating (will be looked at the first service)
- Some mist formation inside the front lights after some rain driving (planning to replace the light units during first service)
- Need some real effort to slot the gears properly into 2nd and 1st gears when downshifting (will be taken care during first service)
- The centre storage area at the top of the dash was not closing properly (sorted out at service centre)
- Some minor rattling noises

No show stopper so far except the brakes, which are working fine to a good extent except for the grinding noise.

Took delivery of my July manufactured W8 last week. Generally great experience so far, and especially happy with the creamy engine, comfy seats, easy gear shifts, and good handling.
The vehicle sure comes loaded with features - and niggles. The moment I drove out of the showroom, realized that there was an issue with the left turn indicator, which didn't always get activated when turned on. Spent the entire next day at the A** getting that fixed, and watching the severely overworked service staff.
As I drove out, I discovered another perplexing issue, which I haven't come across on this thread before: The ESP, Hill Hold and Hill descent tell tale warning lights are coming on simultaneously, and this tends to happen whenever the vehicle wobbles a little (due to bouncy or uneven road surface) at speeds over around 40 Kmph. If I turn off and restart the ignition, these warning lights go away. Haven't spoken to a** about this yet - I shudder at the thought, given the number of hours they took to fix a straight forward turning indicator. Anyone faced this issue, or know of what may be causing this?

So I thought I will try out the "velcro" fix for the mat slip problem. However, I chose not to have the "loops" or the soft fabricy side of the velcro strip, just the "hooks" or the rough pricky side. Check the wikipedia link for what I mean by "hooks" and "loops" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Velcro

The plan was to use the original fabric carpet of the vehicle to attach the "hooks" side of the velcro to, but the fear was that I may damage the carpet itself in the process. I tested it out first - using the velcro "hooks" side repeatedly on a small patch of the carpet under the front seats and found no damage to the carpet whatsoever. Also, the grip was even better than when used with the velcro strip's original "loops" or the soft side.

So, I have used a small 5" length (about 1cm wide) on the bottom side of the drivers side mat and some 1'' strips on the sides of the mat and a 3" strip on the top of the mat. That way the mat is held in place from all sides. So, far the mat has not budged an inch and the carpet seems clean and undamaged by the velcro. Hope it stays that way - if not, I will update the thread.

HI, just wanted to check whether you connect the ipod thru the usb or aux connectors? Cause I have a W6 & my ipod works thru the aux-in only. Whenever I connect it thru the usb, it says 'unsuppported device'.

Can u pls elaborate on the noise from the engine bay? Was it a squealing kind of noise like a loose belt makes or something more mechanical? I face a similar problem, it happens b/w 4th -6th gears whenever pushed hard at low speeds. It stops immediately if you slot into a lower gear. For example, if I'm cruising at 60kmph in 5th & push down the pedal, the noise comes for a couple of secs & stops as the car picks up speed or if I slot it a gear lower. The dealership says its normal (probably the flywheel or the turbo making noise due to sudden extra load).

This is a niggle in the car and if you read the thread almost all users have reported it.
It has been called Torque Steer, a phenomenon associated with all front wheel drives. It is felt greater if your wheel is not fully straight while accelerating.
My personal opinion is that it doen't seem to be torque steer but a resonanting part in the engine or the power train. It is accompanied with mild vibrations in the gear lever too.
Whatever it is, I will not be too alarmed with it, as it looks harmless right now.

I had a similar problem - June batch vehicle. The latch on the right door would get jammed and the door would not open. Spoke to my RM and he got it fixed in 20 mins - basically the mechanic at the dealer opened the door panel, took out the latching mechanism and sprayed it with a synthetic lubricant to smoothen out the latch mechanism. The problem has not re-surfaced since.
