Default Chevrolet Aveo U-VA - EGR malfunction

EGR on my U-VA (petrol) is malfunctioning (just 36,000 kms). The 'engine check' sign is glowing.

EGR unit is out of stock and I have already placed an order thru the dealership (Rs 6500). It will take another 7 days to arrive.

At 55 kms a day, I expect to drive another 300 kms before EGR is replaced.

Service centre guys have said that I can drive without any problem.

Seeking experts' advice on whether I should take any precaution?

Thanks!

What the Service Centre guy said is probably correct. I ran with this 'engine check' sign on my Alto VX 2001 for more than 1000 kms as the EGR unit took more than a month to arrive for my car. The car was showing about 84,000 on the odometre when the problem began. The engine once in a while vibrated more than normal, but that was it.
I think you can safely manage these 300 kms.

The EGR reduces emissions and cylinder temperatures. You can safely drive those 300 kms.

Delayed update:

Drove almost 500 kms with 'Engine Check' sign ON.

Fuel Efficiency was down by 10% during these 500 kms.
