I have a Nokia Navigator phone. Got it for odd 13,000Rs 3 months back. It is really good navigation system. It gave me maps of few major cities of India. Which are pretty accurate. I use it while driving to the unknown corners of Delhi, and it helped a lot in Mumbai too

Its a very good company, among the best in GPS business.
I think you can get this in the US for around 120-130$

This using runs Windows CE 5.0 and you should be able to use most softwares on this one
Thanks; I will check on this one too during my visit to UK.

Yes, This is a good navigation phone. I too own one. But the issue here is, the national / state highways are not covered in the built-in maps.

Hence looking at some other alternative which can cover the Highways and Other Medium / small cities. Found mgMaps to be a useful alternative, but without turn by turn navigation.

Mapmyindia uses wayfinder Software and Satguide uses Destinator.

But I heard that Satguide maps are not accurate and not up-to-date.

Do you feel that NOKIA MAPs POIs are better than other Navigation Softwares ?

By the way, Do you have any idea whether there were any MAP Upgrades in Nokia MAPs recently?

I have been using NOkia navigator and found it to be working very well in mumbai, pune with accurate directions and maps. Though highway and all india map is not pre - installed, it can be purchased and installed from route 66 as and when it is available.

I have been using google maps for highways and cities for which map is not provided, though there will be no voice guided navigation, maps and position is displayed accurately on map if a GPRS/cell signal is available in the area where you are travelling.

i think you dont need voice navigation on highway so google maps is goog option.

I haven't used Nokia maps. Since many of them commented that Nokia is accurate, I thought I could use it. Google map is accurate, however it doesn't provide offline POI database. If I can get a standard format I can convert to the format I need.

Has anyone used a dedicated device like Garmin Nuvi 260W in India? Are there ready-made maps available for NCR / Bangalore / Mumbai for this device? I wanted to gift it to my sister, who is not tech savvy - hence it has to be a simple out of the box solution for her.

Garmin sells india maps. They are in img format. I think mapmyindia or satguide(one of these) has destinator 7 maps, which is the garmin software.
However the best bet is to use a Windows CE based PND(Like Blaupunkt) etc., as many vendors offer software which can run on Windows CE with India maps.

tsk1979: I was thinking of going for a Windows Mobile with GPS; brands like ASUS, HTC.

Can I get mapmyindia or satguide activated on these?

Local providers like satguide and map my india provide the best detailed maps for India with regular updates . They can be loaded to any symbian or windows mobile phones . I have a Nokia N95 8GB with map my india software which gives voice navigation and is transferrable to other symbian mobile if I change my mobile. I have a mobile holder installed in my car and use it like any other dedicated car gps unit.

If you guys are adventurous, OSM maps are free, and most major metros are 80% covered. Esp Chennai, which is very well covered.
Most national highways are also decent.
Slowly as more people start contributing, many cities may get covered more and more.

Otherwise for windows mobile satguide is good.
Which software does mapmyindia navigator use? I am not aware whether garmin etc, can use that
