I know their MMI works on Mio because they sell mio c230. However they are not ready to sell that to me since its not "supported"
So I just went ahead and purchased Oziexplorer

Yes. They simply dont not want to make a sale and make a buck.

I am going to download oziexplorer to laptop and play around with it and then buy the mio next week.

Remember, no routing with Oziexlorer CE. All you can do is download openstreetmap or google maps for the relevant city, and convert them to CE format(free script is provided by them), and enjoy.
So if you know the city a little bit it helps.
I have never been affected by lack of routing since its many times not the best route. For example even on google directions, Delhi to Amritsar takes you through villages and not the main 4 laned NH1

Look at Classifieds:

Team-BHP Classifieds - Bluetooth GPS receiver - Powered by PhotoPost Classifieds
Team-BHP Classifieds - Bluetooth GPS receiver *PRICE REDUCED* - Powered by PhotoPost Classifieds

In Mumbai, gray market cost is around 2k.

Try dealextreme also, they ship to India.
Make sure you get a Sirf III chipset.
As for 12-16-20-40 channels, it does not matter.
At any given time you will not have more than 11 satellites visible(and actually only 5-6 will be strong enough to matter).
So whether you have a 16 channel or a 16 million channel GPS it does not matter

Tanveer there is some confusion here. Mio isnt in the product kitty of MMI, they dont sell it. It is sold by Satguide only.

Also MMI's policy has been very clear since beginning, they dont sell software for PND, they sell the complete device. Only Satguide sells the software.

Oh ok. But the device does not matter.
Mio can run any software which runs on Arm based windows CE 5.0 devices.
So Mapmyindia will run on Mio.
However policy is policy, thats why I took my $$ elsewhere.

I finally had a chance to check my BT gps and the maps on my n70. Google Maps is great for routing, but uses GPRS data connection. Google maps on mgmaps sucks! Yahoo maps on mgmaps is awesome! We took a diverision from Kalasa after Kudremukh and google maps had no idea where we were. Yahoo maps had every single road/mini-road/sub-road/broken-road mapped out in such detail, we were amazed. Google maps just showed that we were off the highway but had no road to show us how to go forward.

Now I need to know how to log these type of trips.

All GPS units will work in India. It is the availability of maps & software's that you should be concerned about.
