I second the above. MMI was what showed me a good link from NH47 to the Alleppey - Thannermukkom road.

And check this post:

I have used it in Kollam and in Trivandrum.

Thanks information

My intention is to buy VX-140 from MMI (someone in our forum recently bought this model and he is quite happy with it).
I was told that UPDATES can be obtained from MMI directly.
Thanks

Your unit already contains the necessary navigation software. You only need to buy India map for Garmin, which you can either load it in the unit or on an SD card.

derAlte is right. Basically you have 2 options
1 Buy the MMI garmin SD card which has the gmapsupp.img + license file
2. Download the open source OSM gmapsupp.img from cloudmade site. However, no routing possible with OSM maps

I still have this question, which I can not understand.
MMI is good, but not as good as google maps.
Some places as I saw are better marked on google maps than MMI even within bangalore.

Is it possible to use google maps some how in a PND? Will google earth be useful in doing that?

To add to what JKDas has said, even small roads in and around Changanassery town are marked as I found out today.

An extension to this question.
I learnt about mg maps in this thread, but does it support only java supported pdas?
Does it work on GPS?

thanks.

MMI VX-140 is available from ebay.in (some discount is available -earlier it was Rs.1000 but that listing was closed yesterday, presently they are offering Rs.500 i.e directly from MMI it costs Rs.14,999/- whereas ebay seller rate is Rs.14,499/- (one of our forum member bought this from ebay and confirmed that system working fine).

I have no ideas whether this is available in any place in Bangalore,
but it is available in Chennai.Have seen an ad in hindu as GARMIN car navigation system available for sale and the address given therein was:

ELEKTRONIK LAB, 10-D Masilamani Street, T.Nagar, Chennai - 600 017
Ph: 044-2435 8288. You may check with them if they have MMI vx-140 also available?

@kavu75

Further to my last, MMI VX-140 (with Rs.1000/- off from MMI price ) again listed in ebay.in
So total cost now would be Rs.14,150/- (Rs 14000 cost + shipping charges Rs.150/- (seller autoworld08).

This is only for your information

As nairrk was quoting i was the one who brought VX-140

Before i purchased i had made detailed enquiry with MMI about this seller and i got information from MMI that autoworld08 is MMI's Channel partner. So you can buy with confidence. I registered the VX-140 in MMI website also successfully.

This time it is delaying.
Anyway, decided to wait couple of days more otherwise will have to order the product without discount (autoworld already giving Rs.1000 off from the
original cost of MMI)

I have a mio digiwalker. Presently the map loaded on sd card shows only street addresses and I dotn know if its genuine version of the maps or not. My question is can I buy MMI or some other maps on a sd card and just put it in to work? If yes how much will just the map cost?
